First, off you traitorous, fascist, sellout piece of *****, reich-
wing terrorist, the above was obvious sarcasm. However, you're too big
a fucking retard to understand that figures like the "99.9999%" quote
clearly were not serious. Secondly, you don't have one fucking idea
what was actually said in Moore's hearing. Moore talks about Jesus all
the time. Other theocrats like Fa$hcroft have expressed partiality to
the slogan "No king but Jesus", which would also be a clear endorsement
of religion, if government adopted it.
Only the word God which is in the courts swearing ceremony
and on the US currency and in the pledge.
You obviously don't even know what this whole controversy is about.
The issue was Moore placing a protestant version of the Mosaic
Decalogue in the alabama supreme courthouse in the middle of the night
without even consulting other justices. He then refused to remove it
when ordered to by federal judges and even the rest of the alabama
supreme court. It wasn't about god on currency.
Liberals hate it when their lies get shot down.
We didn't lie, you mealy-mouthed scumbag.

I've known thousands of Christians. I live in the buckle of the bible
belt. My mother and aunt sing in a church choir. My uncle is a
deacon. My cousin is a professional singer and musician in a gospel

make it a point to seek out non-believers and try to convert them.

That's part of the Parable of the Talents. Jesus wasn't asking that
non-believers be brought before him to be slain. He was telling a

Jesus said "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I
came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man
at variance against his father, and the daughter against her
mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." --
Matthew 10:34-35
Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and
mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea,
and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
But more to the point, it's those who claim to be Jesus'
followers who are dangerous:
"I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is
good . . our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical
duty, we are called on by God to conquer this country. We don't
want equal time. We don't want pluralism." -- Randall Terry,
head of Operation Rescue The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
8-16-93 (and, apparently, Roy Moore shares this kind of
thinking).

In a way, yes. After all, it's a parable. Parables are meant to
illustrate a point. They're not meant to be taken literally. Kinda
like
Aesop's fables. No one really thinks that a fox would try to eat

Ok, fine, but we're not talking about Aesop's fables. Let's stick to the
Talents.
When the story of the Talents refers to servants who get rewards for
good service when their master returns, is that supposed to refer to
Jesus returning to reward his followers? "Take what I've given you and
increase it and great will be your rewards when I return. If you slack
off, I'll be pissed." Right so far? Sounds like what they taught in
Sunday School.
Then he says what to do with the rest of those rabble who wouldn't serve
him at all. "Bring them here before me and kill them." They said that
was about the Judgement.
You're taking bible quotes out of context to justify your prejudices.

I didn't say that somebody didn't make up a meaning for them. That's the
nature of parables, isn't it? They mean whatever you find in them. But
that leaves some pretty wide latitude.

quoted was what the King said, not Jesus.
So Jesus didn't mean himself in the rest of the story? He's not
talking about his "servants" and their "rewards" after he returns
from
"afar"?
In a way, yes. After all, it's a parable. Parables are meant to
illustrate a point. They're not meant to be taken literally. Kinda
like
Aesop's fables. No one really thinks that a fox would try to eat
grapes,
and then get disgusted when he couldn't reach them. It's just a way
to
illustrate the concept of "sour grapes".
Ok, fine, but we're not talking about Aesop's fables. Let's stick to the
Talents.
Ok. But the principle is the same.
Right so far.
Ok, good.
Then he says what to do with the rest of those rabble who wouldn't serve
him at all. "Bring them here before me and kill them." They said that
was about the Judgement.
It was an allegory about the Judgement. Jesus wasn't commanding his
disciples to literally bring him non-believers and slay them. When he said,
"Bring them here before me and kill them" he was speaking as the King, not
as himself.
That hasn't stopped anybody who wanted to from using that verse to
justify killing heretics.
He was illustrating a point in a way that his listeners would
understand. Remember, he wasn't talking to a bunch of liberal college kids
in a coffee shop. He was
Cut off in mid-sentence before he explained what he was talking about? ;-)
To pick up your analogy, he was talking to his own band of followers,
who by then should have been pretty adept at untangling his parables,
and who hung on his every word.
You're taking bible quotes out of context to justify your prejudices.
Isn't that what you accuse Christians of doing?
So none of Jesus stories mean anything? That works for me.
Don't be silly. Jesus's stories mean a lot. They've had a tremendous
influence on our society. How did you get that from what I wrote?
I didn't say that somebody didn't make up a meaning for them. That's the
nature of parables, isn't it? They mean whatever you find in them. But
that leaves some pretty wide latitude.
Not exactly. A parable is told to illustrate a specific point. At least
according to Webster's.
You'd be surprised at how far some people will stretch a point. Or
maybe not. ;-)

Damn, how did that happen? Anyway, thanks for finishing my point. When Jesus
spoke, he almost always used parables to illustrate his points. I'm sure
the listeners understood that he really didn't mean to kill heretics.
However other people may have interpreted this passage at a later date
wasn't my point. My point was that Jesus didn't command his followers to
kill heretics.

Which is by definition intolerance and religious harrassment.

By YOUR definition. To a Christian, choosing a religion isn't like
choosing your favorite football team. Christians think that if you don't
believe in God and don't accept Jesus as your savior, then when you die
you'll go to Hell. They seek out non-believers and try to convert them
to save them from that fate. It isn't about intolerance and harrassment.
It's like preventing children from playing in the street. Even if the
kids say it's fun, and there's no harm, YOU know it's dangerous, so you
do what's necessary to keep them away from busy streets, despite their
temper tantrums.

Of course it is AT THE RECEIVING END.
If you honestly imagine that your excuses that you're doing it because
of your Santa Claus equivalent (WHICH IS ALL IT IS OUTSIIDE YOUR
RELIGION) are going to justify it OUTSIDE YOUR RELIGION then you're an
even bigger idiot that you have already shown yourself to be.

Then demonstrate that this hypothetical deity, danger etc actually
exist in the real world outside your religion.
In other words put up or shut up.
And to dismiss explanations why people react so negatively to your
stupidity as "temper t antrums" demonstrater what a typically

I wasn't talking about the receiving end. I was discussing the point of
view of the Christian. Don't you understand what "to a Christian" means?

MY Santa Claus equivalent? MY religion? Where do you get these ideas?
You don't think that it's possible that an atheist can think you're a
moron, too?

I'm sorry, but I don't think it's necessary to believe in God in order
to think that you're a few pickles shy of a barrel.

Nasty, yes. Christian, no. And your reaction to my post does seem a lot
like a temper tantrum to me.

What you are saying is that Christian belief requires you to be a do-
gooding *****, and harass people who wish to be left alone.
I agree.
