Whilst it is a pithy truism, can a quote on an off-topic subject
qualify for AQOTM?

I'm going to disagree with this. I think the subject is on-topic because it is
religious belief which has led to the ban on homosexual marriage, just like it
led to the ban on interracial marriage and led to the ban on women's voting
rights and other holdovers from our intellectual infancy.
