The Archduke ("Erzherzog" in German) is the son of the last
KuK,
i.e.,
Kaiser und Koenig, Emperor and King, the Emperor Charles I of
Austria
and King
Charles IV of Hungary.
"Otto" is the Grand son of "der schonste Erzherzog" and son of
"Karl"
the Great nephew of The Emperor Franz Joseph who became Crown Prince
on
the death of his Uncle Franz Ferdinand, assassinated at Sarajevo,
June
28 1914. The last Emperor of Austria was "Karl IV" not Charles I. He
and his wife Zita of Bourbon Parma were the Parents of "Otto" the
pretender to the throne of Austria.
Charles II, iirc, was the son of Maria Theresa, the first and only
Empress in her own right of The Holy Roman Empire, and a contemporary
of
Frederick the great.
So even accepting the Anglicization of "Karl" as "Charles" it should
be
IV not II

I think he was Karl I of Austria, not of the Holy Roman Empire.
They went
back to scratch after Austria-Hungary was established, after Napoleon
had
abolished the Holy Roman Empire.
Took me a few days to find my old notes on the subject (the AEIOU
papers: Austriae est imperare orbi universo. sub tittled; Bella gerant
alii, tu, felix Austria, nube) and you are correct, Karl I of Austria
Hungry. Plus i should have written Joseph II as being the son of Maria
Theresa whose nephew Francis II gave his daughter Marie Louise as a
bride to the Corsican adventurer and gave up the title of "Holy Germanic
Roman Emperor" to become Francis I, Emperor of Austria.
Some purists would argue the original Habsburg branch died out with the
death of Charles VI, whose daughter the Empress Maria Theresa was able
to enforce the "pragmatic sanction" thereby defying the traditional
Germanic Salic Law. Her marriage to the Duke of Lorraine producing
Marie Antoinette, Queen of France among others.
If you are not already familiar with it, you might find the genealogy of
Philip, Duke de Orleans (younger brother of Louis XIV), sometimes called
the grandfather of Catholic Royalty, interesting, the present claimant
to the french throne (Duc de Paris) is a direct descendent. The older
Bourbon line descending from Louis XIV having died out in France though
the present King of Spain is descended from Louis XIV.
The Holy Roman Empire, later known as Austria-Hungary, is very important
to future world developments. Heidi has ties to South Tyrol, an ethnic
Austrian region in northern Italy, and I come from Volos, Greece, a city
nicknamed "Austria" by other Greeks. In some sense, both Heidi and I are
"Austrians", whereas another Austrian, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has a good chance
of becoming the next Governor of California, the richest and most populous
state of the Union.
Don Juan Carlos, the King of Spain, is another important figure. Before
ascending to the throne, he was known as the Prince of Asturias and Fernando
Alonso, the young Spaniard who triumphed at the Hungarian Grand Prix, comes
from Oviedo, in the Spanish region of Asturias.
Don Juan Carlos's wife, Queen Sophia, was a Princess of Greece and was
born on November 2, 1938. She was born 57 years, or three 19-year Metonic
cycles of the Moon, after November 2, 1881, when my hometown, Volos, my
"Austria", was liberated from Ottoman Turkish rule and joined Greece.
The annexation of Volos and the rest of Thessaly into Greece had been

Berlin and another, larger village named Koelln.
The original name of this Koelln used to be Colonia, i.e., "Colony", the
same as Heidi's hometown Cologne, known as Koeln in German and as Colonia in
the original Latin.
