The pledge itself is post civil war garbage
You are an un_American pile of *****.
Apparently the idea of small children being required by
the state to publicly chant loyalty oaths in unison strikes
"messenger" as American.
Apparently the notion that citizenship and its nurturing doesn't
require the same repetition as multiplication tables eludes you.
If loyalty requires mindless rote indoctrination,
Children learn from what process?
THINK!
"Think" you say?
I just did.
Well, no, actually that's not what kids learn from mindless rote
indoctrination.
No multiplication tables?
In multiplication, there is only one possible correct ansswer.
I take it this captures your view on individual thought as well?
No spelling bees?
In spelling, we wish everyone to behave precisely the same way.
In matters of the intellect, we wish precisely the opposite.
No memorizing poetry?
I in fact try very hard NOT to memorize my favorite literature,
as rote is very much the enemy of seeing it afresh every time you
re-read it.
None of that?
Only when automatonous behavior, as opposed to autonamous thought,
is desired.
You, I take it, do not find the former undesirable.
