California Prison System to now ban smoking for both guards and
prisoners. Here is a link to the story.

So what will the result be? First of all, many of the prison guards are
as hopelessly addicted to cigarettes as the inmates. Many will be
unable to quit. They will smoke off duty and try to sneak in some
smokes while on duty. I would expect to see widespread flaunting of the
law by prison guards. With a wink and a nod it will be kept under
wraps.
You may see some initial violence by inmates in connection with this
also. Inmates use the smoking to escape and soothe the pain of buried
resentments and hostilities. Unable to use smoking as a way to drug
themselves, there should be a lot more anger rearing its heads.
Unless the State passes a law making it a felony to smuggle cigarettes
into the facility, you are going to see rampant smuggling by both
guards and visitors.
And the lawsuits challenging the law should be filed almost
immiediately. The outcome? Well, it depends on whether the judge is a
smoker or not.
Of all the addictions I overcame (with Gods help I might add), smoking
was by far the hardest to overcome. It was the first addiction I had
and the one I did most frequently (20-30 times a day). I certainly
didn't fix 20-30 times a day. Sometimes I drank that much but not
every day for decades. Giving up heroin and alcohol was easy compared
to smoking.
And all of this points out the ridiculousness of calling addiction to
anything (drugs, alcohol, or smoking ) a "disease". Does anybody in
their right mind honestly believe that smoking cigarettes is a disease?

addiction is not a disease. the ability to become addicted to something is a
feature of our brains.
the fact that other lab animals become addicted when fed addictive
substances, shows the disease model to be a falacy.
nicotine is in fact more addictive than heroin, and people quit smoking
without becoming members of a 12 step cult (although there is a 12 step
group for that).
btw i've heard people in NA claim that they have used the 12 step program to
quit using tobacco. however, they forget that one of the first things NA
tells people is to avoid "people, places and things" associated with their
drug addiction. most NA members are smokers. NA also encourages people not
to quit smoking at the same time as they are in the process of quitting
their drug addiction. so it's not altogether clear to me how one can quit
smoking (tobacco) by attending NA meetings.
12 step cult members are not interested in facing these truths because they
are part of a religion. iow they're not interested in facts, they strive to
subscribe to the beliefs of the cult, and they have been given a strong
reason to do so - the cult has told them that if they stop believing its
teachings, they will surely relapse and die - and they believe what they are
told without challenging it, again because they are told not to challenge
NA.
NA members are caught in a trap of fear, created by lies. the way to escape,
is to doubt. doubt will set you free from any religion. doubt is good.
anything which is real will stand up to doubt. that which is false will
crumble.
