Let's wait and see if a couple of stupid Taiwan bashers (KMT bashers)
will say something about it. BTW, KMT has lost power since 2000 and
become opposition party in Taiwan and KMT has also reconciled with CCP
so those KMT bashers need an update from their dated KMT-CCP struggle
mentality, haha!

I don't think there are many of those (Taiwan bashers, I mean) in these
newsgroups - they rarely surface. Know of any that has them? Just curious.

At present, USA does not support TI. Without that, TI goes nowhere. But
unification does not have many fans in Taiwan either. So what's left?
Status quo. That probbaly is the best for everyone.

At present, the PRC is busy enjoying the fruits of her economic success
to decide what to do about unification, and I am sure that CSB is
intelligent enough to sense this and would *try* to set his plans into
motion. The U.S. is also too busy with the war in Iraq, the election, her
trade deficit, etc., to worry too much about Taiwan's Independence, so the
scene is left open to CSB to pretty much do whatever he likes - but. Like I
said before, he can only go so far without being stopped by the citizens of
Taiwan themselves. At some point in the near future, the Taiwan issue will
again emerge, and whether you, I, or anyone else for that matter, like it or
not, Taiwan is a part of China - the citizens of Taiwan are Chinese - and it
will be in the Interest of the PRC to claim it as part of the nation. It
will be up to the leaders of China to decide which course of action they
will take, when that moment arrives. Each of us has been brought up to
regard this issue from different perspectives, so no one single solution
will satisfy every single person, and I have to stress again the point I
raised earlier, that the leaders of both sides of the Taiwan Straits are
intelligent enough to avoid bloodshed: they have done so for over 50 years,
and their successors are more likely to continue this line of approach, and
to use peaceful means to come to the inevitable conclusion.
I would also like to use this opportunity to say that whatever you, I,
or anyone else in these newsgroups, say about this matter does *NOT* bear
any consequence to the issue. Our opinions do *NOT* mean anything, but
newsgroups the likes of these give us the opportunity to air our views, be
they significant or otherwise, and enable us to see/discuss the viewpoints
of other peoples from various corners of the world. Hopefully our views
catch the attention of possible monitors and be brought to the attention of
people who do have some influence on the matter.

Well, the origins of the state of Taiwan were that they were indeed Chinese
and further more, the rightful rulers of the rest of China too. Naturally
those in possession of that 'rest of China' agreed that Taiwan was also
part of China, just annoyingly absent from their enlightened rule.
The main proponents of the current 'non-chinese' nature of Taiwan has been
the USA, having failed in its campaign to establish that it was 'China' for
the purposes of claiming a UN security council seat, has instead now adopted
the 'independent non-chinese' Taiwan as a rather useful off-shore air-strip
and naval facility.
The opinions of the Taiwanese are, naturally, totally irelevant when they
clash with that US philosophy and absolutely paramount when they don't.

I do not doubt your words, but I don't think the status quo would be
allowed to exist indefinitely, because your leaders will invariably campaign
for either U or TI, and they will be able to summon the military and the
media to sway public opinion to stand by them. I don't believe the PRC would
use military force to unite Taiwan with the Mainland, but they can be pushed
only so far, after which a mere tiny incident may spark off a series of
events leading to a major military confrontation.

True, military confrontation is the main concern of most of Taiwanese
and USA too. At present, the ruling party DPP is pushing TI and USA
is very unhappy because it will drag USA into war. But to change the
status quo, it requires 2/3 of Taiwanese approval. With PRC's
military threat, it's unlikely to pass (without military threat, it is
possible though and that's why CCP has 900 missiles aiming at Taiwan
now, haha!), Anyway, the reason I oppose unification now is because I
just dont see CCP is qualified to be my central government. And the
reason I oppose TI now is because those TI SOB (RAK is one of
examples) teach us to hate anything related to Chinese (otherwise, I
may be fine with TI, haha!).

Military threat will always exist between countries that have
different/conflicting ideologies, and the situation on either side of the
Taiwan Straits is no exception. Whatever you may say about the PRC, the
people in China consider the people in Taiwan as Chinese, and rightly so
too. They do not want to see China divided into two nations to fulfill the
dreams of a handful of descendents of the overthrown KMT government. Fear
and hatred of the PRC amongst the Chinese in Taiwan are still remnants of
the Civil War that dragged on into the Cold War, and will remain for a long
time to come, because people will still be subjected to the ideologies of
the present government. I understand fully your sentiment about the
qualifications of those whom you do not respect, and the thing to do is to
qualify yourself and be a part of that governing body one day. I must point
out however, that your excuse for opposing TI is rather invalid - trolls and

Well, I know mainland Chinese would boycott Taiwanese singers or
actors if they have shown any sign of disrespect or ignorance about
Chinese matters. One Taiwanese actress made a stupid remark on anti-
Japanese war recently and now her TV dramas were boycotted by mainland
Chinese. I think it's overreacting and a sign of inferioity complex,
after all we know alot of people in entertainment business are not
smart or properly educated.

It is interesting to note that newsgroups in China do not spend their
time bashing Taiwan the way newsgroups outside China bash China.
