Among many other nights as well...yes!
Not me personally of course, as a stomach condition prevents me from
drinking coffee, cola or alcohol....but plenty of others do. (By the
way...on Feb 1st, it's four years since I had an alcoholic drink. Of
course
the fact that I officially quit drinking five and a half years ago takes
a
bit of shine off the achievement)
I spent New Year's Eve alone this year. At 32 the novelty of wild
parties
just to celebrate the beginning of a new calendar has long worn off, so
I
decided to just stayed at home and watched a few DVDs before sitting out
on
the veranda to watch the fireworks (which by the way I couldn't see so
that
didn't work out too well). Now I seemed to be the only person at home
in
our entire street. No one else was having a party and I live across
from
a
school, a park and a shopping centre, all of which were totally empty of
course. My point is that I would have been about 500 metres away from
the
nearest alcoholic drink...yet when the wind blew in my direction I could
smell beer as if I was holding one in my hand. There was so much booze
around last night that an alcoholic cloud had settled over the whole
town.
So I think that answers your question....yes we do drink on New Year's
Eve
in Australia.
