The only generalization about theists that I think is true is that all
theists are deluded. Some mildly, some severely, but deluded.
That's okay. I know I am not deluded and my opinion is the only one
Oh, but you are, everybody is about something. As a perfect example, I
have four of the most beautiful daughters and three intelligent sons that
have ever walked the face of the earth. The only thing that allows me to
any credence in that claim is their income is always between seven and
eight digits, girls and boys. As to the daughters, ask any father did
ever loved his child.
Everyone is indeed deluded about something; I happen to think that my
theism is not a delusion - so far. :-)
which matters to me. I can be convinced/persuaded/educated about almost
anything, however. My mind is not yet a lump of concrete. I've had
You're female, your mind is plastic.
Indeed, which is why the world would be in much better shape if women
were in charge of everything! lol
nothing said to me yet here which has convinced nor persuaded me to reject
my theism. I've read comments or questions directed to me and to
other theists who have posted here; one or two had me stopping and really
thinking - but nothing yet which has convinced me I am "deluded",
All mythologies thrive on that simple statement, & it basically boils down
to this, it makes me feel good inside or it gives me comfort. Nothing
really wrong with that, especially if as you do, you keep it to yourself.
I try to do so.... I don't always succeed. As Eve tempted by the apple
(a nice little fairy tale), I am sometimes too tempted by a post to
keep my ideas to myself.
Eventually, you may find yourself comfortable enough on this particular
newsgroup that when asked about it, you will be able to expand on your
thoughts and conclusions, as well as how you arrived at those conclusions.
Maybe........
Theism is oddly hard to avoid in the United States, it literally is
everywhere. From the first Nations which had a viable theology, and one
that worked for them, to the bad news of xianity in its more rabid forms.
I managed to avoid theism for many years - except for reading about it
as a matter of curiosity. Book of the Hopi - read it several times,
but it didn't influence me in any way to become theistic. I classed it
with the bible, a collection of myth and fable and a tad of history....
nothing more. The same is true for the casual readings I did on
ancient Egyptian religion, Celtic, and Greek.... all interesting, but
not life impacting. Sometimes even I can't believe I ended up a
theist. lol
indoctrinated, brain-washed, mistaken, or anything else. I think that
is one reason I stick with the group - if I am in error, I want to know
it. I interpreted what I experienced to the best of my knowledge and
the research I could do. As I keep learning and questioning by being
on here, well.... one day I might just read THE post or question. I
went from total indifference to theism to theism - why not from theism
to atheism?
A very real chance of that, and therefore I give you this caution. Make
sure that what you gain is equal to or greater than what you have decided
to give up.
*nod* which is why I won't make a quick decision.

Huh? I don't remember Walksalone doing anything.
I don't either Neil, OFS?
Go back to the thread. When Walksalone "rolled up his sleeves", I was so
relieved.
All I ever did was
question what you were saying,
snip
and when it quickly became apparent that
you're not equipped for that I backed off. I'm really not interested in
clubbing baby seals.
I noticed that Neil, & for myself, thank you.
I had to leave the puter and give myself a talking to.
snip, prior reasons stated & still in effect.
walksalone, who sees no reason the lass cannot continue to grow & keep her
theistic inclinations, after all, the odds say that eventually there will
be one or two that are decent people. Well, other than being female, that
is.
Pfffffttttt ... at least my deity has feminine attributes unlike the
Big Three which relegate women to the kitchen and the bedroom!
The odds have nothing to say about that.
LOL
Walk in harmony and beauty......

they should remain at home, sit still, keep house, and bear and bring up
children."
