wild turkey uncapitalized are a class of birds which look like shiny dark
brown to black and white basketballs on thin legs, with the heads and
neck of vultures and the brains of pigeons. The males behave like
peacocks, spreading their tails fanned out and making "gobbling"
sounds when they try to attract females.
http://www.ecofloridamag.com/gallery/gal_wild_turkey.htm
Despite their appearance being about as attractive as overfed vultures,
they make good eating, and Ben Franklin wanted to make the turkey
the national bird of the United States. Perhaps he anticipated others
calling American politicians fat ugly and stupid.
On the other hand, Wild Turkey capitalized is a highly prized variety
of Kentucky Bourbon whiskey. In the colonial days, Irish distillers
settled in the hills of Kentucky and neighboring Tennessee, and set
up shop. The area in Kentucky, called "Bourbon" in honor of some
then current European monarchs, came to be known as the origin
of some of the finest whiskeys in the world, of a variety distinctly
American, made from native corn. There are two chief factors
which determine the quality of Kentucky whisky, namely, the
amount of corn mash in ratio to other ingredients, and the heat and
degree of distillation. The superior whiskeys have higher contents
of corn and are distilled directly to the proof at which they are
bottled, compared to inferior whiskeys which have higher contents
of cheaper grains and are distilled to very high proofs, then diluted
with water to the bottled proof. Obviously the purer product
which is distilled to bottled proof, is the American equivalent of
the "single malt Scotch", and is highly prized, "Wild Turkey" being
http://camy.org/gallery/fullsize/74.jpg
in this class. "Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey" is a controlled
designator, and the word "Bourbon" may only be used on whiskey
originating from Bourbon County. Corn/sour mash whiskey is also
made in neighboring Tennessee, by similar methods, but the end
product is filtered through charcoal, unique to Tennessee sour
mash. There a really only two Tennessee whiskeys of any merit,
George Dickel and Jack Daniels, and adherents of both argue
to no end about which is better. BTW- one of the most popular
Bourbons is Jim Beam, which cranks it out faster than a race
horse pisses, and when a Beam warehouse burned down a
short while back, destroying thousands of barrels of finished
whiskey, it didn't put a cramp in their style, a mere drop in the
bucket, to those godless sinners, capitalizing on the fall of man
into the morass of the unrepentant.

I personally don't care a lot for distilled spirits, but you can't argue
with the numbers... for every drunk bum whose life is ruined by
alcoholism, there's another 1,000 who seem to do just fine with a
dram or two a day. And if there were no booze, the same drunks
would find some other way to make a mess of themselves, while
those that do manage it better would be deprived of something a
bit divine. Sipping good whiskey, tasting good wines, drinking good
beers and ales, we know that God did not intend us to be completely
bored on a diet of milk and bread. The folly of the drunk is to try to
live on that divine elixir, and to forget the bread and milk altogether.
The one is a boring life, the other a rapid and pitiable death. Ye are
the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses it's savor, with what shall it
be restored? A turkey sandwich?

I meant, sarcastically, that it appears you felt strongly about the Jim
Beam bourbon.
I concur that a drop or two is a reasonable thing, and moderation in all
things is wisdom.
