You got it backward. Scientists assume the opposite of what they
believe to be reasonable just so to prove it wrong, as they know
full well they can't prove theories true, but they can prove the
negatives false. Learn some science.
Susie, you should try not to show such ignorance of the scientific method in
public. The theory that ETs exist can be proven true simply by demonstrating
some ETs, knucklehead.
But the default presumption in the absence of ETs cannot be that it is true
that ETs exist. That would be begging the question. That means that
regardless of the personal subjective convictions (beliefs) of any of the
SETI investigators, the official policy of the SETI Argus study is that the
official default presumption as long as there are no ETs found is the null
hypothesis ("There are no ETs.") That official presumption stands forever,
unless some ETs turn up.
You don't have to take my word for it. Ask any other scientist with
experience in designing and conducting logical scientific investigations.
