Every so often I have some new guy asking me how long someone has to
be clean so they aren't considered a newcomer any more. Usually they
are asking because they have some idea in their head that NA is like a
fraternity or something and that the people who aren't newcomers are
allowed to pick on the people who are newcomers.
I always tell them some point in time about 15 years ahead of where I
am at.
My sponsor just celebrated 30 years clean at the meeting last night.
The only thing he kept talking about was how much he liked that
meeting because they always treated him like a regular old sick addict
and never expected him to share a bunch of inspirational stuff. He
always says his goal is to stay a regular old NA member.
