I'm not sure why Woody posted to alt.atheism. This group is almost
uniformly uncivilized and behaves just like a religion.
The problem is not with atheists; it is with alt.atheism. WHY would a
group of people congregate to discuss something they believe does not
exist? It is irrational to a degree that exceeds the most far-out
religious believer.
The religious believer is at least believing *in* something. You believe
in NOT something. That's your "glue", reason for existing.

What a nasty little ***** you are. If you had the slightest 'civilization'
yourself you'd respect our desire to hang out quietly in a place where
everyone's atheism is taken for granted, and where we could talk about
whatever we wanted without credulous morons messing things up like they do
in everyday life. But instead of leaving us alone, you and thousands of
idiots like you can't resist dragging your nasty slug-trail of arrogant
stupidity through the group, determined to annoy us.

You're probably aware, but Michael likes to lie about virtually
everything, and when anyone uses certain words in response to his
dishonesty, he runs away. With any luck, everyone will use one of the
words on his list, and then he'll have nobody to lie to. I'm
surprised people are being as polite to him as they are.

involve hysteria, insults and innuendo - prime qualifications

Wrong. We LACK believe. Although it could be said that also those that

I've never seen this newsgroup 'discuss' something that we as a group
don't believe exists.
What we do is pretty much tell the troll theists that keep trying to
convert us that we don't believe them and we discuss belief, ethics
and politics.
We don't bother to discuss the different aspects of gods. Please
point out where you think we have.
Although the fact that you think a lot of things exist that don't,
doesn't bode well for your credibility.

Believing 'in' something is lying to yourself to make yourself feel

Oh, and I don't need to 'believe' in anything to have a reason to
exist. Existing seems to happen no matter what I believe. Reality is
like that.

Furthermore this thread is not the only discussion going on in alt.atheism.

There is no "we". These conversations are highly diverse and each
conversation is about a different thing. Only two of you seem to be
discussing my belief in a god. A few more are "dissing" my belief in a
god. Others are demanding "objective, verifiable evidence" of a god,
which has nothing whatever to do with "my belief" or their own for that
matter.
As to what else I have; quite a lot. We could go into topics of digital
photography, travel, SCUBA diving, music, books and a bunch of things I am
not thinking of right now.
alt.atheism is far bigger than I had supposed so it is not really a very
good place to discuss things other than the non-existence of God.

Well, as you can see, eight people responded and those are just the ones
that I do not have blocked. Given the nature of this group, yes, I would
call it cheering me on in a curiously inverted, anti sort of way; kind of
like making a group whose purpose is to not believe in something.
It is possible we use the word "believe" in different ways. I do not see
any connection between "believe" and "lying to yourself." IN the context
we have here, believe pertains to a conclusion that is based in, or
supported by, evidence you possess. Believe is slightly less committed
than "know" which requires conclusive evidence (that is, evidence that
narrows the possible causes to exactly one). "Believe" is as good as it
gets most of the time for most people about most things.

Well, as you can see, eight people responded and those are just the ones
that I do not have blocked. Given the nature of this group, yes, I would
call it cheering me on in a curiously inverted, anti sort of way; kind of
like making a group whose purpose is to not believe in something.

Still lying I see. Isn't that supposed to be a sin?

It is possible we use the word "believe" in different ways. I do not see
any connection between "believe" and "lying to yourself." IN the context
we have here, believe pertains to a conclusion that is based in, or
supported by, evidence you possess. Believe is slightly less committed
than "know" which requires conclusive evidence (that is, evidence that
narrows the possible causes to exactly one). "Believe" is as good as it
gets most of the time for most people about most things.

And the word games continue. You are delibrately trying to equate proof
(not available for anything in the real world) with evidence, and, as if
that were not enough, you also try to equate evidence with subjective
experience.

No, some atheists seem to equate proof with evidence, I do not. I do
equate evidence with subjective experience, for to the person who
experienced it, it is a fact and it is evidence.
When I started this, I did not possess the nuances of meanings that you
use, also, it is now *three* categories of thing: proof, evidence, and
subjective experience.
So you see, you need not look very far at all to see who is really dancing
the dance of word meanings.
But that's okay, I'll add "subjective experience" to the mix and
acknowledge that some of my previous messages I used "evidence" where you
would have preferred me to use "subjective experience."
However, I suggest this is a meaningless distinction to the observer; he
or she must necessarily consider all experiences "subjective" since it is
the subject (the person) that is experiencing a thing, and the thing is
evidence, and so is the experience itself.
