"lock in" those ostensible parts, and in practice the monarch could derail the
whole business. In essence, the Canadians have no say whatsoever in the
election of their chief executives, only in their legislative representatives. While
Alan was busy condemning "googling", he failed to recognize the splendid humor
of the facts- Canada is still under the direct control of the British monarchy,
and only enjoys a degree of sovereignty at the pleasure of the monarch.

Actually Australia is also part of the Commonwealth. A couple of years ago
we had a scandal with one of the Governor Generals (or was it one of the
State Heads, can't remember) think it was the Governor General. Anyway he'd
been an Archbishop before (yes that's right - he was Archbishop of Brisbane
and then Governor General) and during that time had paid hush money or
induced people to keep their mouth shut after they accused some of his
priests/ministers of kiddy fiddling. Now I find it quite funny that the
Queen would have approved of an Archbishop in the first place knowing that
the church is part of a rank morass of pedophilia.
The Prime Minister stood by him (because the G-G hadn't been proved to be a
pedophile himself, just hiding it for others) and stood by him and stood by
him, until eventually he was smart enough to sell him out and had him fired.
Then we had to wait till the Queen said yes to another one. Basically the
Queen is a figurehead, everything is sorted out beforehand and she just
signs off on things, she doesn't actually have that much say on how the
policies of a country are set up or adhered to.

These people aren't discussing politics. They're basically just trashing
each others voting preferences. Not once have I seen any arguments relating
to the actual policies of the political parties. I haven't heard about
Bush's stand on education or health, nor Kerry's. All I've heard is people
calling each other dirty Democrats/Republicans/Liberals (same thing as
something else).
I really couldn't care less about a party's personalities, but rather am
more interested in how them being in power is going to affect me, my family
and friends. Then I assess their character and think about whether they'd
actually deliver on their policy promises. Then I vote accordingly.
Everything else is extraneous *****.
