The fruit of the Tree of Knowledge looks more like a symbol of mankind's
Acquisition of the Ability to Distinguish / Discriminate.
Before eating the fruit = mankind didn't have such Ability.
After eating the fruit = mankind have acquired such Ability.
That corresponds with what God says in verse 2:22:
"Now the man has become like one of us and has knowledge of what is good

and

what is bad. He must not be allowed to eat fruit from the tree of life."
Knowing what is good and what is bad connotes the Ability to discriminate,
therefore, the man was not able to tell the difference between nakedness

and

unnakedness, between good and bad, before they ate the fruit, which would
equip them with such Ability.
Therefore, mankind became mortal because of their Aquisition of such

Ability

which was inadmissible to God. It has nothing to do with Disobedience to
God or knowing what is EVIL after eating the fruit.
Mankind will be able to regain immortality from God if they know how to
return to the Mental STATE before eating the fruit of the tree of

knowledge.

In this case, I don't see any significance of the need of salvation by

God.

The bunch of you are thrashing a straw man of your own making, for
nowhere does the Bible say anything about a fruit from the "tree of
knowledge". The Lord says: " Now come ye and let us reason together", as
well as "Study to show yourself approved", and "My people go to perdition
for lack of knowledge" etc. etc. There are numerous other passages
encouraging the acquisition of knowledge.
What the Bible is talking about is the fruit (or results) from eating of
the fruit of the knowledge of GOOD AND EVIL".
