Re: God is still in the middle of all this. |

I think I've heard statements on the news three times made by citizens
of the Middle East in which they say that they are pleading to God to
help them out of this mess.
Today on the news I saw a group of worshippers in a church praying to
God that He somehow fix the power outages that have been occurring in
certain parts of the U.S. Do they expect it will work? Will they say
the prayers were effective once the electricity comes back on?
For crying out loud! Why must He make us endure these hardships? Is
it still because of the Adam and Eve thing?
Maybe we need to fix these problems *ourselves*, and take all the
credit.
By the way, my conservative uncle (who I've talked about before in
this NG) says that Israel just wants to live in peace. Is he right?
Some briefing on the Middle East situation would be helpful for me.
I'm somewhat of a newbie in understanding the whole thing.
Very short answer: The Jewish people believe 'God' set aside
Israel/Palestine/Canaan for them and them alone. Instead of wiggling his
nose and having the land vacant and ready for a peaceful occupation on the
part of his 'chosen people', he decided to have them go into the 'Promised
Land' and slaughter the men, women, babies, children and either 'confiscate'
or slaughter their livestock too. Why all the needless bloodshed? 'God'
works in mysterious ways. Once the Jews had their 'Promised Land', 'God' saw
to it that everybody and their uncle invaded the place and made the Jews
second-rate citizens in their own country. 'God' saw to it that eventually
Hitler would come to power and do an 'annihilation job and a half' on his
'chosen people' because they obviously weren't worthy of his 'love' and
protection. In 1948 Israel became a nation once again and started stealing
Arab land just like in the 'good old days'. The Palestinians (who were
promised sovereignty by the British during World War I, but reneged) resent
the Israelis and feel that with the help of their 'God', they'll get their
land(s) back. They'll kill innocent people in a heartbeat because 'Allah'
said it's OK.
That's the short of it. A couple of points are in order though.
I feel the Israelis are a cultured people and have every right to exist as a
nation. But so do the Palestinians and Lebanese. It's the stupid-*****
damnable religious stuff that is clogging up the works.
My set of 'facts' may be incorrect in places. If so. Sue me. I'm 'winging'
it here. Feel free to correct my presumptuous *****.
Religion is such a destructive force that we humans absolutely have to find
something to replace it or the goofs (including the present administration)
may start using the nukes. (Perhaps subconsciously being triggered by that
deep-seeded belief that 'God' would want it that way. Hell, doesn't the
Bible point to the 'End Times'? Wouldn't everybody be one big happy and dead
bunch Bible fulfillers? That would make 'God' happy, wouldn't it? Allah too,
I suppose.
Ahhh, what's the point? What are a few atheists and agnostics going to do
about it? Nothing.
