Yes he has served his sentence and as part of his release conditions has to
report to the police 3 times per week and is subject to a curfew. But still
anything has to be better than Guantanamo Bay and prison.
It interests me that some of his neighbours are trying to protect him "Why
can't you let this guy live a new life?" yelled one passerby"

It must be the gulag economy is perpetuating not only

Please note that all of it is in violation of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, which prohibit all forms

David Hick's father, Terry, spoke to a public gathering I attended and
which was oraganised by Amnesty International. David spent 9 months in
an Adelaide prison after arriving home from Guantanamo Bay. He had the
option of freely turning on and off the light switch in his cell.
Something that had been denied him for 5 years in Guantanamo Bay. He was
unable to use his new "freedom" to do so. He instead asked the guards to
turn on and off the light so institutionalised he had become. He didn't
much cared for exercise time outside his cell either.
What makes it worse is that I also heard Major Morri speak at another
meeting. His opinion was that the US Government's case against Hick
would collapse if it went to the normal appeal's route. David Hicks
pleaded guilty anyway because who wants to spend any more time at
Guantanamo Bay. His opinion was confirmed when exactly this happened
with a couple of other cases but Hicks had already blinked after 5 years
of institutionalisation.
The Premier of South Australia wants Hicks to apologise to Australia but
I think Australia should apologise to him no matter what the truth of
the matter of the "charges" against Hicks. In anyone book Hicks has not
been treated fairly.
He was brought home to help save John Howard's arse but he had it
royally kicked anyway. He is now out of prison but he is subject of a
"control order" which is an extrajudicial measure, a sort of summary
punishment outside of the courts that the government can pretty well
apply as it see fit. We have had so many rights stripped away in
Australia in the name of the "war on terror". We have have no
constitutional rights. In Hick's case the control order is for theatre
effect as most of the so called "war on terror" is.
