say "when" anytime you like.
i guess ARNA will never be the same again.
this place is a smoking ruin.
it's been trashed. thoroughly trashed.
In the last year, basically since I stopped reading arna daily,
I've moved to a new city and area, changed jobs,
gone back to school and gotten on with my life.
I've got you to thank for that, Rickie.
Without your participation in this group, I might never have rethought
my own participation on arna and would probably still be
here on a daily basis.
What's your excuse for still being here?
It's an ADDICTION?
your answer is INCORRECT.
i'm a patient helpful kinda guy, so i'm going to take the time to explain
things a bit to you. get comfortable.
no, my young 12 step apprentice, it is not accurate to start labelling
almost every human activity under the sun as an addiction. that is what the
12 step cult seeks to do. it gets all its members questioning every part of
their lives to try and identify behaviour that is congruent with addiction.
fact is, addiction does not exist. it's a myth. there is no such thing as
addiction, no such thing as the disease of addiction.
what we think of as addiction is merely a fad. a passing craze. something we
intensely enjoy doing, but only for a time. after a while, the thrill palls
and we are onto the next one.
no one substance or activity is powerful enough to addict us forever. every
addiction has a beginning and thus it must have an end.
one does not have to do anything to stop an addiction. in time it will burn
itself out. for now, just enjoy the ride.
when the ride is over you can go and tell all your war stories in NA / AA
meetings. the people who continually relapse are prematurely in NA / AA.
their addiction has not yet burnt itself out. they need to keep on using /
drinking until they've had enough.
until that Great Day dawns, here's looking at you kid. <hits crack pipe>

i understand why you're angry.
you wish you could be taking a good strong hit right now, but NA has got you
convinced that you can't.
of course you can. any time you like. just make sure you have a reliable
dependable income stream set up that doesn't require you to go into work
every day.
