Being "considered intelligent" wasn't a concern of mine, especially
when a bunch of semi-literate back woods ranchers are doing the
"considering". Intelligence is like a box of tools and knowing how
to use them. Fools like to have the tools and point out how shiny
they are to fellow fools, yet have no use for them. They're more
concerned with being "considered intelligent". Some of the words
Brits do with the "ou" diphthong have legitimate arguments in their
favor, (Latin) e.g., "flavour" comes from Middle English with that
spelling, but "favorit" is an archaic French word which did not possess=
the "ou" until some illiterate Englishman, not having a whit of wit,
added that unnecessary u by analogy to similar sounding English words.
Then again Middle English "flavour" meant "aroma" not "taste", and
came to the English via the Normans from vulgar Latin "flator", which
is to blow, as does the entire argument of to u or not to u.
aroma and taste are tightly bound.
