Before Hitler, anti-Semites had attacked Jews
verbally or physically because of their religious

identified the Jews as a race. This identification of
course has no basis in science, because modern
Jews are composed of several different national and
racial stocks. To talk about the Jewish "race" is as
absurd as talking about the Catholic "race" or the
American "race."

As far as you know, Mindreader Mitchell, did Charles Darwin ever engage
in "anti-Catholicism"?
Do you consider condemning the Spanish Inquisition "anti-Catholicism?"
You continually to attack Darwin for attacking the Inquisition. You've
refused even to agree that the Inquisition was bad, on the grounds
that Communism in the 20th century was worse.
Interesting, in the quotes you compare below, Darwin attacks the
Inquisition. Hitler does not; the Hitler quote is in fact *defending*
earlier repression by the Catholic Church. It was regrettable, Hitler
says, but necessary.
Nonetheless, you imply that Hitler was saying something similar to
Darwin. Your error may stem from the fact that you don't know was the
word "apodictic" means.
Hitler; Darwin: "the evil which the Catholic Church has thus effected
is incalculable"

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=1124768891.979046.93770%40g49g2000cwa.googlegroups.com
I can't deny it; you quote Goebbels right there in black-and-white.
It's March of 1942, the Holocaust is just getting off the ground. In
the privacy of his diary, after a discussion with Goering, Goebbel let
go with all his venom exactly how the two, in one case with direct
orders from Hitler, would act against prominent critics in the
Protestant and Catholic churches.
But before getting to that, Goebbels says "We start with the
transportation problem...." This would be a reference to rescheduling
the Germany train system -- quite a trick in war-time ! -- to take all
those millions of Jews off to various places to kill them. Then they
get around to the more important work of persecuting the Protestants
and Catholics.
Well, to begin with, there's this old Field Marshal von Mackensen who
was " being used a little too much by subversive elements for their
propaganda." Specifically, Goebbel rails, " Mackensen has for some
time been active as a sort of granddaddy of the Christian churches."
Now Mackensen had gone and forged a letter critical of the Nazis and
sent it to the wrong person. So Goering had " been ordered by the
Fuehrer to ask Field Marshal von Mackensen to come to see him and
give him a piece of his mind." Obviously, Hitler was pissed.
Goebbels is firm and reiterates "Goering will give [Mackensen] an
unequivocal piece of his mind. "
But Goebbel and Goering didn't stop there. The oppression of the
Christians continued: There was the matter of Bishops Galen of
Muenster and Berning of Osnabrueck. Goering addressed them both a
sharp letter.

(who I recently read had, after one of those Administration scandal
things, "closeted" with the President for some extended period of

Since I have no evidence either way that isn't circumstantial -- that
is, involves one or more circumstances -- I shan't name them. I can't
remember the fourth -- though, now that I think of it, it was Grover
Norquist.

Michael, I can only respond with the Jack Nicholson line from As Good
As It Gets: "If that did it for me, I'd be the luckiest man in the
World..."
Wait, you meant that as if one's sexual orientation being dirty was a
*bad* thing! A common misapprehension, for sure, but we overlapped
each other at Berkeley; if only we'd met, I had some gay friends I'm
certain would have gotten you over that hump. One of them wore a red
cape, told this limericks involving petroleum jelly, and would torment
the Trotskyists by telling them how the Bay of Pigs Invasion was right,
because of Castro's persecution of Cuban Gays.
You see, being straight, the most interesting non-academic activities
at Berkeley involved the campus pools after hours, and various
not-too-distant beaches, lakes and rivers -- the best of the latter
being the one that ran through Napa Valley; the free wine was much
freer back then. I christianed these activities "creative swimming"
because every other term was known to our parents.

Argh, what a, pardon the expression, straight line. I came up with:
"You say that like it is a bad thing."
and
"Well, mine is so why not yours as well."
and
"At least your not a Republican."

# I. The Elderly
The elderly were often targeted for euthanasia or
extermination not because of bloodlines or defects
but because of their lack of contribution in a
utilitarian philosophy. Jewish elderly were sent often
to Terezin which the Nazis tried to promote as a
'retirement community', but which in fact proved to
be a disguised gateway to Auschwitz. In Hitler's
progressive views of youth and vitality and a new
Germany, the elderly of all racial backgrounds were
denigrated as contributing little to the new Reich.
They were among the first killed when deported to
the killing centers because of their perceived
burden.
The non-existent God of Judaism-- who _didn't_ create humans and
_didn't_ tell humans what's moral and what's immoral-- _doesn't_ have a
say as to what's moral and what's immoral for humans to do.
A society determines what's moral and what's immoral for humans to do.
If a group, if a society, says that an action is moral, then it's
moral.
If a society says that engaging in homosexual activity is moral, then
it's moral.
If a society says that killing all those over age 65 is moral, then
it's moral.
If a society says that killing pre-born human life via abortion is
moral, then it's moral.
If a society says that killing sub-person parasites and the
[Darwin]"imbecile, maimed, and other useless members of society" is
moral, then it's moral.

One might well ask why are there any Jews in the world order?
That would be exactly like asking why are there potato bugs?
Nature is dominated by the law of struggle. There will always
be parasites who will spur this struggle on and intensify the
process of selection between the strong and the weak. The
principle of struggle dominates also in human life. One must
merely know the laws of this struggle to be able to face it. ....
In nature life always takes measures against parasites; in the life
of nations that is not always the case. From this fact the Jewish
peril actually stems. There is therefore no other recourse left
for modern nations except to exterminate the Jew....

In May 1973, James D. Watson, the Nobel Prize
laureate who discovered the double helix of DNA,
granted an interview to _Prism_ magazine, then a
publication of the American Medical Association.
_Time_ later reported the interview to the general
public, quoting Watson as having said,
If a child were not declared alive until three days
after birth, then all parents could be allowed the
choice only a few are given under the present
system. The doctor could allow the child to die
if the parents so choose and save a lot of misery
and suffering. I believe this view is the only
rational, compassionate attitude to have.
In January 1978, Francis Crick, also a Nobel
laureate, was quoted in the _Pacific News Service_
as saying,

until it has passed certain tests regarding its
genetic endowment and that if it fails these tests
it forfeits the right to live.

Here is a example of Hitler's 'atheism' and social Darwinistic vision:
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of
the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am
fighting for the work of the Lord."

You'll never get them to understand this. In their simplistic minds
people who do evil can't be Christians, know they're evil and lie
about it to do what they know is an evil agenda.
Nobody sees themselves as evil except those protestants who imagine
everybody is born evil.

What does atheism have to do with Terri Schiavo? Plenty of theists
were against the unconstitutional intervention of the FL legislature
and her parents pandering to the media in an attempt to contravene her
wishes and usurp the authority of her husband.

I consider Ford immoral. I consider him a propagandist. I consider him to
be of low character and very likely out of his mind. I consider him to be a
perfect demonstration that belief in God cannot guarantee morality, and each
post he makes confirms that his underlying claim is false.
