You are right. The teachers won't be very effective at teaching what
they don't understand themselves. This same problem is also inherent
with the teaching of critical thinking skills. There are very few
teachers that understand the basics when it comes to critical thinking
and therefore cannot be expected to be a good source of this type of
education.
What seems to me to be the only hope is for those of us who
understand the importance of these subjects, (constitutional
principles, individual rights and critical thinking), is to educate
ourselves on these subjects so that we can effectively spread these
principles to as many people as we can.
Another way that may be even more effective is to purchase well
written books on these subjects and donate them to teachers, and to
the schools.
A third alternative is to offer support to organizations that have
like minded goals.
