DISREGARD MULTIPLE CARATS:
Hello, All:
I must say this is an atheist listserv. Excuse the hell out of me, but I
thought that that meant we'd either agree to no "deep, God-type (or
Christian-centric) discussions" or agree there is no divine power. However,
I
remember feeling disapointed on that point last time I participated, so
forgive my bitching, please.
Either way, because the abortion debate (pardon the pun) cuts so deep, I
thought I'd weigh in.
Of course, at a certain point, a fetus has life and consciousness--feeling
or
sentience. But, at many or most points, it is a ball of cells completely
dependent on its host.
The planet Earth may well decide at some point decide to "buck us all off
her
back," like so many fleas.
We, like the proverbial feti, at present, would have no recourse. *****
happens.
Unfortunately, the human race must grow up before ALL life will either be
prevented or protected.
So, before all the moralizers out there doom all immature, unprepared,
unwilling women to bear children they will neither want nor be able to care
for, I respectfully request that they consider the consequences of such
actions.
People today have many medical options not available to people of the past,
but I don't see the majority of you current Evangelicals rejecting
immunizations or life-saving medical treatments in order to comply with
"God's
will."
Hell, if you're so devout, why are you talking on this modern medium?
Spreading the word, I think not. You should know that physically doing good
works wiil win you more converts among "men."
If "God" made you a woman, then you have your own set of issues with which
to
cope; otherwise, stay out of my business.
I have NEVER aborted a fetus, but I also know that "God's plan" may be too
complex for me to discern.
Until it has the ability to live independently (about mid-second trimester),
it might very well be within "God's plan" and the best interest of ALL
parties
involved to leave the decision up to "man," including the decision to abort.
So many other unfortunate events can be written off as "God's will," why not
this? The Good Book was written in a different time, when people were
struggling to survive. Dietary restrictions had a reason beyond
spirituality,
etc.
Please explain your rationale(s).
Sincerely,
Anya

A female parent; especially, one of the human race; a woman who has
borne a child.
The woman is not it's mother until it is borne.
*** Try telling that one to a mother, how about your own? ***
I certainly didn't become a mother until birth had occurred.
Couldn't you feel the life growing inside you? What was it then?
And even
though I was already a mothr to one child when I was later pregnant
again - there was no other child to whom I was also a mother until that
pregnancy had ended too.
Until the births occurred there weren't children to be a parent *to*.
Most people disagree with you. Have you heard of the expression, "with
child"? Fetus is Latin for 'offspring', as any human being of any
culture in the world can intuitively understand. With modern technology
it's even more certain:

You have no facts to support your position, just silly word games. And
even those you can't win.
