I agree with you. I think that there are two problems.
First, we allow the creationists to fight on our turf.
So the entire time is spent defending evolution.

I think that the fight must be fought on their turf.
If they cannot present any proof,

Biology has the appearance of having been designed by intelligence.

a human? a bacterium? the first biological lifeform?

that has to be pounced
upon. IDers should be pressed to present a system that
is unambiguously designed. If they can't do that, they
should be ridiculed.

I volunteer for the job of chief ridiculer.

Larry, you'll be a fabulous [LM]"chief ridiculer."
Perhaps as your first order of business you could come up with better
invective than [LM]"idiots" and [LM]"kooks."

http://groups.google.co.in/groups?selm=Pine.SGI.3.96A.990102235105.11328B-100000%40umbc9.umbc.edu

I think this is the correct strategy. We need to go on the offensive.

We do indeed. I suggest that all IDiots should be "allowed to go" from
their jobs.
Fire the IDiots
http://groups.google.co.in/groups?selm=b1c67abe.0403121312.35d2e0c%40posting.google.com
Actually, *all* heretics-- including the "Lamarckist" Steele-- should be
"allowed to go" from their jobs. We almost got Steele out:
http://groups.google.co.in/groups?selm=dford3-37ek4mF5bljo3U1%40individual.net

We need to make the public aware of the fact that most scientists
think of these people as kooks.

[LM]"Kooks" who need to be fired. Newton was a creationist when it came
to biology. If he was around today I'd suggest that he be fired for
being one of those [LM]"kooks."
Also, Larry, have Humphrey, Dwyer, Dennett, and Dawkins gone around
[LM]"behaving like idiots"?
http://groups.google.co.in/groups?selm=dford3-36ptr0F53hkerU1%40individual.net

That might play into the hands of the
deovoted but they're a hopeless cause anyway.

It's the average person we want to reach. They need worry about being
laughed at if they jump on the Creationist bus.

Yes: fear of [LM]"being laughed at" will definitely stop [LM]"the
average person" from [LM]"jump[ing] on the Creationist bus."

They need to think
about the fact that they, or their children, might be called an idiot in
public.

I prefer the spelling "IDiot."

Our goal is to portray Creationism, correctly, as something
that has about as much credibility as the Flat Earth Society or

perpetual

motion.

Or phlogiston.
Rosen thinks the phrase "'natural selection'" ought be "stripped from
our technical vocabulary," and the theory "sen[t]... off to join the
ether, phlogiston, and noxious vapors."

Don't debate them.

A wise, winning strategy. It's working well for John Wilkins-- he
killfiled one particularly-annoying IDiot, and refuses to read anything
that IDiot writes.

Laugh at them.

Works for me!
But I am curious. What is your current position on saltation & Schwartz?
Larry contradicts himself on Jeffrey Schwartz & saltation

The ability of the Creationists to whack us with the statement that
"Evolution is only a theory" is because our own scientists are confused
about that! All science is either hypothesis or theory because we are
finite in an infinite universe and can never have absolute knowlege.
But we let the "born-again" claim they have "The Truth" because
scientists themselves are unwilling to abandon the concept! All we
really achieve---and that is always enough to bring progress---is to
achieve a more accurate understanding of ourselves and our universe--a
more accurate understanding than we used to have and, for example, the
"born-again"s have!

Observations (like evolution) aren't theories.

You mean biology including evolution? I agree, but I'd suggest that's
a spiritually-perceived appearance, not a scientifically demonstrable
one.

David why is it that you just ignore the truth and misapply
quotations that do not forward your claim. You only reference messages
and posts from yourself. That is not a cogent reply.

What's [j]"the truth"?
What [j]"claim" of mine did you have in mind?

Not so. E.g.,

Not so. E.g.,

david, I looked at those links. They are messages to david ford about
the subjects yes, but you are not offering any substantive proof. On
several occasions I discovered there was something about the subject,
but it was at the bottom of a large post. you only reference people
that agree with you. If you want to post evidence you should reference
the book and page to go with the text not a link. The reason for doing
this is to allow people to verify what you say. scientists do this and
expect to be corrected. You do not.
This is not a personal attack; I am trying to relate to you a problem
with the way you post.

Especially as the links point at the portion of the post just before
other contributors tear any argument he thinks he has to shreds.
