I would guess that people who go along with the religion [or no
religion] that they are raised in or that is dominant in their social
circle tend to be of average intelligence while those who choose to
change their beliefs tend to be of higher than average intelligence.
With many exceptions both ways.
Some of the most intelligent people that I know are converts to
Catholicism, Judaism, and Buddhism. And atheists too.

what they believe and why. People who maintain the beliefs with which
they were brought up have also often thought long and hard about what
they believe and why. Many people just don't give a damn. It's the
Laodiceans who are the problems in the world.

I agree. I am a Christian and I have great respect for the
intelligence and integrity of many atheists I know.

I agree. I am a Christian and I have great respect for the
intelligence and integrity of many atheists I know.
And you sir are a man of obviously great discernment, WRT those who
exist. ;-)
