Well, the verses are all lies, but they ARE in the bible, and they're NOT
misquoted.

Well, the verses are all lies, but they ARE in the bible, and they're NOT
misquoted.

Most of this is Old Testament which portrayed God as a spiteful old man
who punished those who disbelieved or disobeyed. Jesus, of course,
portrayed a different view of God in the New Testament.

I recognize many of the quotes though many you will not find if you do
a search on a bible site. The most difficult to find is the one of g~d
ordering the brains of babies to be bashed on rocks (gosh, don't know
why the right to lifers would want to hide that one).
It is amazing to me how little of the bible 'believers' know.... then
again maybe it should not be a surprise. When I say 'believers' I do
not mean all Christians or Jews. I know many who know the Bible, know
its limitations, see it in context of when it was written and when the
stories come from. It is only those that take the Bible as the literal
word of G~d who would have real issues with what the Bible actually
says and those are the ones whom the leaders keep in ignorance, cherry
picking the book for that which serves those in power.
DKat
P.S. What many people don't take into account is that the Bible comes
from a culture that was a theocracy written during what we would
consider a barbaric time. Governance and religious worship were woven
together as one. The 'laws' (10 commandments) of G~d are separate from
the many (over 600) laws of the Bible. No where in the 10 commandments
is there mention of homosexuality, mixing wool and linen, financial
compensation for loss of a fetus when a woman is injured, etc.

But what the bible says literally, is what it "actually" says. Anything else
is interpretation. The interpretations may be justified in light of the
qualifiers you mention, but in any interpretation that strays from the
literal, one is creating one's own edit of the bible.

That sounds like the god engages in cultural relativism.

No two people have the same image of what a G~d is. I certainly don't
believe that the Bible represents G~d. It is a lovely book of
literature, poetry and some oral history converted to text. A bit
creepy at times but so is Stephen King. The bible limits God as much
as the mythology of Zeus and other gods and in many ways it is very
childish and primative. What we know from science makes the
possibility of what a God could be far more impressive and awesome
than the bible could ever even comes close to (though I do like the
poetry of the 1st Genesis.

Exactly, and what is odd is that the bible even says that knowledge is
given for the simple and concealed to the wise. And the more
sophisticated Christer interpretations get, the more they are straying
from their own philosophy. Sheesh, it doesn't take a very complicated
person to understand the verses that talk about killing children.
