As for his statement that God had installed Bush in the White House,
Boykin said he meant that God had done the same for "Bill Clinton and
other presidents."

Were there any presidents who God did not install?

Yes, all of them. God does not exist.

Yes, all of them. God does not exist.

There were many presidents that belived in God. Washington, Lincoln,
T. Roosevelt, F D Roosevelt, Kennedy and Clinton. At least Clinton
claims to.
Can you name the would be presidents who don't?
If the Repubs can get the Dems to run around yelling, "There's no
God!", look out.

America is a very very religious nation. That turned out to be a
grave liability in the war on terror. Fighting religious
fundementalists puts our own brands of religious fundementalism in the
spotlight, and under strain.
If it looks like it is the conservative Christians against he
conservatives Muslims, which the White House has gone to length to say
it is not but not done very much to prove it is not, than we lose.
Its that simple.
We lose because all our allies, our important allies with money and
troops, are all a bunch of godless liberals living mostly in Europe.
Without their basic support a global war on terrorism is impossible,
since it is in Europe that links between the Arab world and the West
exist, noteworthy Paris and London but all over.
It would be like a radical Hispanic group attacked Paris. They had
operations in the US. US government aid would be critical.
But most important we would lose because there simply is more
religious conservitivism in the islamic world than in the US, it has
less to lose, more people willing to die for the cause, and has a
massive population to call upon.

Well if the atheists won't fight the terrorists somebodys got to do

Tons of atheists and agnostics were ready to fight terrorists, but
Bush decided to invade Iraq instead. In so doing he was actively
doing what the Islamic radicals were saying he was doing, defining all
Muslims as terrorists.
The fight in Iraq has NOTHING to do with the war on terror. Bush has
lost the war on terror that less religious people would have actually
conducted and won. Bin Laden is free and the Jihad against US forces
and interests which is the force behind this terror is growing and
florishing under Bush war.

If it looks like it is the conservative Christians against he
conservatives Muslims, which the White House has gone to length to say
it is not but not done very much to prove it is not, than we lose.
Its that simple.

Maybe some atheists will join them. I doubt if all the atheists will

Tons of moderate religious people and non-religious people were active
in the war on terrorism.
The invasion of Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism, it only makes
terrorists stronger.

We lose because all our allies, our important allies with money and

Ever heard of a little place in Europe called Russia?
Do you know how many 25,000,000 people are?
Again, its this kind of view, utter mythology presenting itself as
reality, which is destroying the war on terrorism.

It would be like a radical Hispanic group attacked Paris. They had

For a good cause yes, for a stupid cause no.
After 9-11 we had a good cause and the American people were ready to
fight, but Bush converted it in to a stupid cause: Iraq. Iraq is the
defeat in the war on terror. Sorry but we lost that war already. By
invading Iraq Bush did precisely what Bin Laden was hoping he would
do.

but surely wonderful YOU are not this stupid. Those supporting civil

Kinda stretching it there, aren't you ? The premise
was that Iraq was doing business with terrorists
and/or were well located and financed to do so.
Their religion was irrelevant - and indeed the
mostly sunni government were very 'secular' moslems,
enough so to annoy bin-Laden.
Of course, Hussein had been working the past couple
of years to endear himself to the fundamentalists
and radicals in the region, so it's hard to say how
LONG bin-Laden would have stayed 'annoyed' enough
to avoid doing business with Hussein.
Now if we were mad at moslems-in-general we would
have immediately invaded Saudi Arabia ... maybe
carpet-bombed Mecca while we were at it. In terms
of helping terrorists and spreading violent rad
islam, there are plenty of high-ranking Saudi
officials and citizens involved.
Alas, politics. As the geographical core of islam,
it's important that we stay friendly with the Sauds
for sake of appearances. So long as they do not
openly forsake us, it looks as if we have their
tacit approval to zap their fellow moslems. It's
a "SEE ! We're nice to THESE moslems !" thing ...

It is strange that the whole premise on the attack on Iraq was that they were
suspected of having WMDs and suspected of working with terrorists when there
was another middle-eastern government (Pakistan) that we absolutely KNEW had
WMDs, that we KNEW sold nuclear technology to an enemy country and that we KNEW
financially supported 9/11.
The question that we should be asking isn't "Why Iraq?" but "Why not Pakistan?
Why is Pakistan our ally when Musharraf's offenses are much greater and much
more documentable than Hussein's?"

grave liability in the war on terror. Fighting religious
fundementalists puts our own brands of religious fundementalism in the
spotlight, and under strain.

Well if the atheists won't fight the terrorists somebodys got to do
it.

Tons of atheists and agnostics were ready to fight terrorists, but
Bush decided to invade Iraq instead. In so doing he was actively
doing what the Islamic radicals were saying he was doing, defining all
Muslims as terrorists.

Of course, Hussein had been working the past couple
of years to endear himself to the fundamentalists
and radicals in the region, so it's hard to say how
LONG bin-Laden would have stayed 'annoyed' enough
to avoid doing business with Hussein.

he was spending bundles building new mosques and the like to kiss
their butts (which is easy to do 5 times a day.)

Now if we were mad at moslems-in-general we would
have immediately invaded Saudi Arabia ... maybe
carpet-bombed Mecca while we were at it. In terms
of helping terrorists and spreading violent rad
islam, there are plenty of high-ranking Saudi
officials and citizens involved.

Can you imagine what would happen if Mecca was attacked? Forget it,
the biggest war even seen in the universe!

Alas, politics. As the geographical core of islam,
it's important that we stay friendly with the Sauds
for sake of appearances. So long as they do not
openly forsake us, it looks as if we have their
tacit approval to zap their fellow moslems. It's
a "SEE ! We're nice to THESE moslems !" thing ...

There were also many President who believed that while males were
smarter than females or dark skinned people of any kind. That did not
make it true.

Who were they?

Well lets see Wilson, Taft, Buchanian, Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln,
etc etc etc.

this is the same Jefferson who said differently and tried to get an
anti-slavary clause into the constitution???

Umm I don't know how ignorant you are but until the mid 1960s slavery
existed and most President publically oppose abolishion, even Lincoln
did not run on abolishion. As for women, they recieved the vote in
1920, just a life time ago.

you mean 1860's not 1960's.??

He means 1960's Democrats were brought kicking and screaming into the
cause of equality for all in the 1960's. Remember stalwart Dem
Senators Gore and Fulbright voted against the 1964 civil rights bill.

Yes...the Southern Democrats like Thurmond and Helms who jumped ship after the
Civil Rights Act of 1964, bolted to the Republican Party and became the
dominant power in the GOP in the early 80s after Reagan was elected.
The core of the GOP of today ARE the Dixiecrats of the early 60s. It was their
massive defection which made the Deep South a GOP stronghold when they had been
strongly Democrat for over a century. Their racist, bigoted,
anti-Constitutional, neo-Confederate, Christian-supremacist, attitudes never
changed...just their party affiliation.

As for his statement that God had installed Bush in the White House,
Boykin said he meant that God had done the same for "Bill Clinton and
other presidents."

Were there any presidents who God did not install?

Yes, all of them. God does not exist.

There were many presidents that belived in God. Washington, Lincoln,
T. Roosevelt, F D Roosevelt, Kennedy and Clinton. At least Clinton
claims to.

Belief in gods does not make them real.
However, believing they ARE real may
alter ones behavior and, in the case
of politicians, their policies. Alas,
with politicians, I think it's less
gods that they worship than devils -
no matter what they tell us.

There were many presidents that belived in God. Washington,

Who was a Deist, not a Christian.

Lincoln,

Who, by his own admission was not a Christian

T. Roosevelt

Durch Reformed but was very much supportive of the separation of Church and
State...as the adherents of most minority faiths are.

Clinton. At least Clinton claims to.

Clinton was a Southern Baptist. When Gingrich was installed as Speaker of the
House it was the first time in US history where the President, Vice-President
and Speaker of the House all belonged to the same religious sect.

Which has what to do with whether the non-existent god they believed
in actually installed them?

So what if they did? That doesn't mean that this hypothetical deity
installed them, or that some wingnut tells the world it did.

Can you name the would be presidents who don't?
If the Repubs can get the Dems to run around yelling, "There's no
God!", look out.
