A very balanced viewpoint...not.
I am no supporter of the IRA, or of Sinn Fein.
I do, however, understand a little of where they are coming from,
even
if I dont agree with their methods.

This "campaign" was born from a denial of catholics in northern

ireland

of their rights.

And what of the civil rights for those living in the Republic? If

the

main

purpose of the campaign was civil rights, why didn't they do

anything

there?

Can you detail where catholics were being denied their civil rights

in

the republic please?

Everyone was being denied basic civil rights.

And there were people fighting for civil rights in the south too

(James

Connolly for example).

After independence?

/spoonfeed
The Labour Party which was Connolly's legacy.

LOL

The point is that in the north catholics were
being denied the same rights as protestants. This is what spawned the
more recent troubles.

If you don't know the facts
about your own country, you've no business criticising others.

I do know the facts, Im just trying to figure out how you think these
particular facts are relevant.

In that case, you don't know the facts

Which facts are you referring to please?

I thought you knew the facts
.

Hmm...The Labour Party as a source of such amusement.
Interesting.

I think it's a good thing to have a political party in Ireland, that's good
for at least one thing

No I'm not. You believe that the Republic was a utopian society in
comparison to the North in the 60s and 70s?

Does this phrase have meaning in your world?

No I'm not.

Yes you are.
Observe the following discussion.
Me: A lot of the troubles were spawned from the fight for civil rights
You: But people didnt have their full rights in the south either, you
dont know the facts.
Me: I do know the facts, I am trying to figure out what the relevance of
this particular fact is.
You: I thought you knew the facts.
If you cant see a problem with the way you approached this, you are
either too stupid to continue this discussion, or deliberately trolling,
as I have claimed.

You believe that the Republic was a utopian society in
comparison to the North in the 60s and 70s?

Nope, where did I do that?
There were civil rights movements in the south during that time as well,
and yes, many of them were associated with the civil rights movement in
the north.

For the most part, political parties in Ireland are a bunch of
unprincipaled, self serving, useless shower of corrupt bastards (IMHO)

being denied the same rights as protestants. This is what spawned

Ah, there goes Concorde. You know, I've been watching it since it first
flew, and yet I still get a buzz seeing it.

You believe that the Republic was a utopian society in
comparison to the North in the 60s and 70s?

Nope, where did I do that?

You keep going on about abuses in the North, while completely ignoring what
was happening to those down South, which was far worse

There were civil rights movements in the south during that time as well,
and yes, many of them were associated with the civil rights movement in
the north.

But what did they acheive? Unmarrried mothers imprisoned, assaulted and
having their babies stolen. Contraception remaining illegal until the 80s.
Divorce only became legal a few years ago. Abortion laws which still put
pregnant women at risk. Etc., etc. Not to mention only having one
television channel until the late 70s.
