Here's hoping that Gibson does NOT give into the political correctness
bigots and will present his honest, straightforward story in
accordance with the
gospel record.
It's a great, original and unique concept. Let's hope that unbelievers
don't
force him to tell anything but The Truth.
As an unbeliever who respects greatly the *teachings* in the New Testament,
I would also hope he tells the story as he believes it. Just as attempts
from the right to make anything "unpatriotic" politically incorrect are
wrong, so are attempts by the left. People should stand for what they
believe.
What "the Truth" is, however, is probably unknown, we just have
interpretations.

It's all in the same book, dude. The bible teaches followers to glory in the
death of their savior for their own benefit. Hell, they wear the image of
the very torture device used to kill the Jesus character. It's disgusting.
It's intellectually dishonest.
You're saying the crucifixion of the Jesus character does not constitute

No. A "teaching" is a moral lesson, leading to an exhortation to do
something. The NT does not teach anyone to go out and find an innocent to
kill. What you're referring to is a theological issue.

Oh yes it does. To take one example, what about "His blood be upon
us and upon out children" (Matthew 27:25) which was responsible
for millenia of anti-semitism, up to and including the WWII
holocaust.
Please. The meaning of the verse is clear, and it's certainly not a request
by the Jews to have violence heaped upon them for centuries.. What powermad
and bigoted men have used it for over the "millenia" is another issue
entirely.

The Gospels do teach that Jesus died so that others could go to
heaven. It is the basic teaching of Christianity.
Except he didn't really die. He spent the weekend being dead and came
back not only alive again, but as a deity! That is not a sacrifice!
I've probably endured worse for longer with less payback than Jesus

I agree with georgann that Jesus isn't *about* his teachings, but the
fact is jesus did teach things and we Christians cannot dismiss his
teachings. Scott said he respects the teachings; what's wrong with

I agree with Georgann about jesus; I agree with Scott's implicit claim
that we Christian's can't *prove* it, not with premises that Scott
would likely accept.
But about Gibson's movie: as I understand it the movie is entirely in
Aramaic and Greek and depends on the fact that most people are
familiar with the story as a substitute for subtitles. I've heard some
criticism from various grous; they remind me of the flack conservative
Christians fired at The Last temptation of Christ. I'll wait to see
the movie before I make any judgments.

If "finding a way out" means living without knowing who God really is, I'd
rather not exist at all.
I personally don't see how anyone who have come to know God would ever want
"out". There will be those who _stay_ out by choice I am told.
In this "out" place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Blah, blah, blah.
I'm having fun in the "out" place, and I ***** guarantee you
that my life is full of happiness. So much for "weeping" and
"gnashing of teeth."

Funny, but all my SILs who are all god-believers are on either some kind of an
anti-depressant or anxiety medication. I've seen first-hand how much their god
belief has done for them.

And as you know, I've just gone through hell month dealing with my fundie
family. Discovering after this past weekend's confrontation that one half
is lying about the other half and playing bizarre head games with
everybody in range.
Such a group of bitter, angry, depression prone people you'd be hard
pressed to match...
