Correct, but! What we observe from the existing Universe up to date
does not indicate the existence of a supernatural being. Of course, no
one can say that the existence of such a being is not possible. But we
can say that it is not necessary for explanation of the observed
aspects of the Universe. In fact, the introduction of such a
hypothetical being would complicate the explanation of observed
phenomena. Hence Occam's razor.
How can science explain something from nothing?
Where did the matter that started the big bang and the ever expanding
universe come from?
As I have stated above I am reluctant to enter a discussion on theism
in a political NG. Keeping to religion and its effects on modern
society is a lot more ON TOPC subject. If you insist on discussings
theism do it in the appropriate forums like alt.agnosticism, alt,
atheism, talk.atheism, sci.skeptic, soc.atheism and
uk.philosophy.atheism.
How can science explain something from nothing.
Try reading scientific articles. The answer to at least some of your
questions is there.
It cant because its not rational. That leads to the more rational
assumption that something "super" natural occured. Or a supernatural
being exists.
Define rational! According to your reasoning Voodoo is more rational
than science since it readily employs the elements of "supernatural"?
What about the complexity of the universe, earth, the human body. Is it
rational to think these things are just the result of of a zillion
random mutations or matter from nowhere conforming to self propogating
laws of physics.
The anwers are there in those science books you seem not to have heard
about.
Why do peoples of just about all races & denominations believe in a god
or gods, is this inane sense evident in probably all cultures
coincidental.
First one should decide which gods are real and which aren't. Please
get back to me when you have made up your mind.

In physical cosmology, the Big Bang is the scientific theory that the
universe emerged from an enormously dense and hot state about 13.7
billion years ago. The Big Bang theory is based on the observed
Hubble's law redshift of distant galaxies that when taken together with
the cosmological principle indicate that space is expanding according
to the Friedmann-Lema=EEtre model of general relativity. Extrapolated
into the past, these observations show that the universe has expanded
from a state in which all the MATTER and energy in the universe was at
an immense temperature and density.

So your god is a god of the gaps, just like so many other people's
seems to be.
If there's something you don't have an answer for, or don't
understand, it's easier to label it "supernatural" instead of "unknown
for now." You stick all the unknowns into a box and label it
"supernatural" or "caused by your god." An invisible god which can't
even be proven to exist, but your solution is more comforting to you
for what reason?

It has been observed in QM. Where the disagreement is, is in the
explanation why it happens.
But this is not an atheist issue.
Why don't you ask on talk. Origins? Note: ASK, not tell.

Again, what "matter that started the big bang"?
Once again, you parade your ignorance.
The whole of spacetime expanded from the singularity.
***Physicists do not widely agree on what happened before this***
What a remarkably stupid, ignorant statement.
Physcists do not know because there is no data.At the moment they can
only go back to 10^-43 of a second after it. So they SPECULATE. Do you
know what that word means? But at least the speculations are based on
reality. Unlike those that invent the sypernatural out of ignorance.
They admit that suggestions like the big bang being the result of a
quantum fluctuation are speculation. At least quantum events are known
- no matter how much religious fundamentalists pretend they aren't.
Unlike brainwashed religionists who insist that their totally
unjustified presumption of their deity, is the correct explanation.
although general relativity predicts a gravitational singularity (for
reporting on some of the more notable speculation on this issue, see
cosmogony).
The spacetime singularity is confirmed and not controversial. Nothing
has been found which contradicts it.
And it is is not the "matter" of your strawman.
Talk.origins was specifically set up to try and educate ignorant
religionists in leading edge science.
Why didn't you ask there, troll?
How can science explain something from nothing.
Quantum mechanics can give examples. Which is nothing to do with

They concur on the existence of the effects and their observations.
The disagreement is in the explanation for this..
Translation: You're not here to be educated but just rub your
ignorance in our faces.
Science does not equal atheism, or vice versa.
Nor is cosmology some kind of atheist catechism.
You want detailed answers, go to talk.origins or one of the scientific
newsgroups where you will get a more detailed explanation.
But from your performance here you won't accept a layman's
understanding, nor anything dumbed down to your level.
Try reading scientific articles. The answer to at least some of your

because you can't be bothered to look for answers in reality?
And how the ***** is "our very existence" evidence for a supernatural
being?
Because you have been brainwashed since childhood to connect the two?
I suggest you look up "non sequitur".

the topic under discussoin at the very least
to cut a long story short the question was:
How can science explain something from nothing?
Christopher A. Lee wrote:> It observes it happening as part of Quantum

Wish you had of said that in the first fucking place.
Not my words:
Epistemological limitations to cosmogony
The assumptions of naturalism that underly the scientific method have
led some scientists, especially observationalists to question whether
the ultimate reason or source for the universe to exist can be answered
in a scientific fashion. In particular, the principle of sufficient
reason seems to indicate that there should be such an explanation, but
whether a satisfactory explanation can be obtained through scientific
inquiry is debatable. Theistic explanations for origins indicate that
one or more deity is the explanation, though some atheistic
commentators point to this as an argument from ignorance or a God of
the gaps fallacy.

If you think you've been badly done by here then find a

Yes ..... but I'm not silly enough to go tell them!

Nice to see you admitting your god doesn't exist, quite refreshing
really. After all, if the muslims' god doesn't exist then neither does
yours. They are, after all, the same god. Christianity and Islam are
both Abrahamic religions and both claim the existence of the same god.

Both religions arose in the middle east. The adherrents wore clothes and

The chinese communists refer to the writings of Marx as did the Russian
communists. What both made of those writings were poles apart. Marx still
existed even though both communist religions, which arose from his writings,

Atheist "logic" takes a bit of getting used to. If god#a doesn't exist then

The dependancy is that these three religions: judaism, christianity and
islam are all Abrahamic religions which follow the same god. The
dependancy only exists between these 3 religions. These religions all
share moses as a prophet, why, because moses talked to the same god
which all 3 religions claim exists.

Whoa, are you dumb or deliberately being stupid? Marxism is not a
religion it is an ideology, different beast although they can look
pretty similar at times. The difference is that an ideology is based on
an interpretation of certain facts, in the case of Marxism, a particular
interpretation of history. The trouble is when it acts like a religion
and does not change when the facts don't agree with the interpretation.
Oh, and before you try putting words in my mouth again, I am not a
Marxist. Although Marx has some interesting observations I am of the
opinion that his ideology is fundamentally flawed, eurocentric and just
plain wrong in parts.

Who's spamming? I get one message from the14thdisciple for every
message by god's creator -- but I've gotten several messages in reply
from you with identical content except the 'Newsgroups: ' line -- where
everything is different except alt.religion.christian-teen is in them
all. What do you have against ARC-T? And are there other groups you
are also spamming?

| Title: Shadow Men from Outer Space Were Invited Here By Naughty George Bush and the Naughty American Government |
31 May 2006 01:08:24 PM |
|
|
My story; My first experience of the Shadow People came when I was
walking down the street in central London many, many years ago. It
was a dull spring day, not unlike many other dull spring days I could
mention. Suddenly the sun appeared in a break between the clouds and
then - well, that's when I saw them.
The first one was very close to me, plastered against the wall,
obviously surprised by the sudden appearance of the sun he'd no place
to hide. There he was. Description? Black, shadowy, and long. He
looked like his feet started where mine ended. In a vain attempt to
conceal his existance he started COPYING MY ACTIONS! Everytime I
lifted my arm, he did likewise. The same with my leg, head - in fact
ANY action I made HE duplicated - EXACTLY!
But that's not the strangest part of my tale; upon looking around the
busy street, hoping that someone else had noticed my shadowy
companion, I saw DOZENS OF OTHER shadow-people trying to 'mingle' with
the crowd, obviously ALL taken short by the suns' unexpected
appearance!!
Not one word in here about them---how strange
I guess we must wait until Hollywood makes a
movie on the subject---then look out--millions
of people will see them!
Not half, mate! The shadow people in my experience managed to elude
me, taking advantage when the sun went behind a cloud. As it stayed
dull again for the rest of my life I never got a chance to see another
'in the flesh' as it were.
But - fascinated as I was - I mentioned the event to a close friend.
As you might expect I was anxious not to appear stupid or
'crackpottish' to my friend, so you can imagine my surprise and relief
when he produced a photo-album and pointed out several snaps he'd
taken of his family and friends (on beaches, by the pool etc) and on
almost ALL of them there were shadow-people!!
I always thought the UFO/alien crowd who
embraces---Chemtrails--crop circles--abductions--moon hoax--gov. lies-
and so much more would be in the vanguard
of a new craze....such as shadow people--
Well I for one decided to investigate further and can now reveal some
facts I've discovered about these unusually dark 'companions';
1) They love the sunshine. In fact you'll never ever see them in the
dark
2) When you're in a film studio you'll see LOTS of them gathered
around the
'star' when he's acting
3) They're black
4) They're incapable of independant action
5) They don't smell
6) Some of them are shaped like animals
7) Some of them are shaped like buildings
8) They don't buy drinks
9) None of them are called 'Donald'
10) Joan Baez has NEVER written a protest-song about them
11) And neither has Bob Dylan.
MY GOD--they must be aliens--maybe demons
a different alternative existence.
That's what I thought, too! My ambition is to prove such, and with
this aim in mind I'm planning to catch one, next time it goes bright

:> Withdraw the offensive remarks to my person and apologise, please.
After you have withdrawn your offencive remarks about people
of religious Faith and have apologised to them, I may
consider indulging you. Till then .... keep the tissues
handy.
That'll be the day when we apologise for remaining rational human
beings.
Troll, kindly restrict your post in the future to alt.holier than holy
or something like that and leave atheists alone. That will make us
happy, and it might make you happy.
Let's face it: You won't find any converts here to your superstitious
mumbo jumbo. And we could not give a ***** about convincing you on any
issues related to atheism. Any further exchange on this subject is just
a huge waste of everybody's time.
If you think you've been badly done by here then find a
Moslem group and try telling them that their "God" is just a
figment of their imagination. You'll receive a real
"education" I'm sure.
Please leave now kindly! Don't tempt me!
Otherwise I won't hold back and serve you the proper treatment on your
underlying bigotry, racism and all that jazz. Don't forget, this debate
is also posted in a political group and the gloves are definitely off.
Cheers and no tears.
No cheers, no tears. And definitelly no farts. And no more verbal
vomit.

I didn't ask you to apologise for your self-perception. I
asked the other bloke (Michael) to apologise for his
offencive and intolerant remarks about people of the
religious Faith.

Leave the Faithful alone and you won't be challenged on your
own religious beliefs ---- the bearers of which don't seem
to be able to hold up well under challenge.
Ordog:

I'm already happy but, in this thread, I'm finding so many
unhappy people ... and some (mentally) unstable ones at
that. Atheism must be very stressful. I admire those
atheists who can keep at it for so long without seeming to
require a coffee break or a smoke.

You've thrown in the towel already?? You're no fun.

Why are you so afraid of the Muslems? Surely they'll
tolerate your atheism as well as we do and calmly debate it
with you till the mullahs come home.

Ordog, there's obviously only one God you deny and that's
the real one ---- the christian one.
The desperation, the emotion, the tears of rage. I imply
that the Muslems might not be as willing as christians to
peacefully discuss these issues and Ordog loses it!
He immediately reveals where his allegiances actually lie
--- not with atheism but with Islam.

Thanks. You're rather messy at times and those farts ....

I've debated with some Muslims many times. They are just as blind as you
are when it comes facts about matters of faith. But that's to be expected.
