START
My name is Paul and I am an addict.
I have been clean for 17 years and 9 months.
I may have been clean a long time, but I do still have certain issues
that
irritate me from time to time. One of those issues is that I can feel
irritated when I am ignored. The other is that I can feel the same
way when
someone apparently takes my personal power away from me.
At the moment, those feelings are amplified because I am 19 weeks into
a
course of medical treatment to combat hepatitis-c. My irritation can
explode into fury sometimes as the medical drugs that I am temporarily
on
(pegylated interferon and ribavirin) are causing pretty serious mood
swings
(amongst other things). The side effects are not to be taken lightly.
Anyway, what I am trying to say is that every time I receive an email
from
EGNA, I have a powerful desire to smash my monitor and computer to
pieces. I
also get fantasies of self harming and/or suicide. This is because I
have
made multiple requests to be unsubscribed from the list and the list
owner
keeps ignoring those requests. This just reinforces many of the
negative
messages that I was fed early in my life that my feelings are invalid
and
worthless. It also reinforces the way I was heavily controlled early
in my
life.
I realise that that my reaction to receiving these emails is
disproportionate, but I joined this list in good faith on the
understanding
that I could unsubscribe whenever I wished. By forcing me to remain
on this
list, the list owner is totally invalidating my views and feelings.
I don't want any more emails from EGNA. I've been trying to
unsubscribe for
months. I'm ill enough already thank you. At least I will be off
these
medical drugs in a few weeks anyway. I'm aware that they are causing
psychiatric disturbance within me. But continuing to force someone to
stay
on a mailing list is harassment in my opinion. Do you really want to
have
it on your head that you are harassing someone who is drifting in and
out of
psychiatric disturbance?
I also want to say that I have an OK recovery normally but these toxic
drugs

The ultimate temptation of the believer is to assume that
his or her way to God is the best or only way for others.
The particular Way to God becomes what is adored, not the
ineffable and incomprehensible Mystery to which we give the
name of God.
In essence we have become addicted to the certainty,
sureness or sense of security that our faith provides. It is
no longer a living by faith, with hope and growing in
unconditional love.
