The US is the only place anybody takes this seriously.
The first time I heard this I was amazed anybody could be so stupid.
It was like when I saw Duane Gish on TV using Piltdown as "proof" that
science was fraud - it had been a joke even when I was kid, in the
1950s. That was when I realised just how many people took it
seriously, and how many stupid people there were in the US.

And I heard that Denmark was a sexual septic tank.

Not only that, I've heard no one over there has real bullets

Even if that is the case, what problem do you have with that?

Then there's the matter of everyone having to turn in their

Kind of like what happened in the United States, when each

government intervened?

Not only that, rumors off the street have it that American

Why is that a bad thing?

Add to that, Alkiada headquarters for the 911 attack on America

We get more press, is what I meant. Anything that happens here is
reported around the world. Idiots in other nations don't get the
attention idiots here do. If a politician in Europe or Australia
makes some nutty religious statement, most people outside the affected
populace don't hear about it. But let some minor official of some

There are very few creationists and/or fundies in Western Europe.

Western Europe has its own nutty religious masses. They simply do and
believe different idiocies than most American religious nuts believe.
There is little in the United States that even comes close to the
Passion Processions of Spain, or the festival of the liquified blood
in Italy, or any of the other ten thousand special devotions to
martyrs and saints, or to the "Miracles" at Lourdes, or to the
virgin's visitations at Mejugorge, et cetetra. People are people. A
certain percentage will always gravitate towards religious mysticism
or fundamentalism. The United States is not unique in that peculiarity
and Western Europe is not immune from it. There is one thing, however,
that sets us apart, we disgorged ourselves of obnoxious kings and the
haughty aristocracy over 200 years ago. Britain, Spain, Belgium and a
few other Western European nations have yet to do the same.
Even

the religious wouldn't dream of imposing the 10 commandments. There
are no lawsuits over creationism because they would get laughed outr
of the lowest court in the land instead of going all the way up to the
equivalent of the supreme court where some of the justices vote for
it.

There are no lawsuits over Creationism -- or much else -- in the UK
because the "Engish" legal system was designed to protect the rich and
the government from "capricious" suits and from suits in general. That
great American, Newt Gingrich, was trying to get legislation passed
here to adopt the "English System" for American use. Fate intervened,
however, when the man-who-would- renew America was caught porking his
secretary, and his good conservative friends forced him to resign his
post as Speaker of the House.

When it was discovered that a semi-independant college in Northern
England was teaching creationism, questions were asked in parliament
and it was the start of Bliar's donward spiral when he sounded like
Gore, Lieberman, Bush and Cheney. Nobody expects anybody in a position
of leadership to stupid enough and uneducated enough to be a
creationist.

Unless they're born to the House of Lords or to the useless
aristocracy. Then they can be all 12 varieties of common moron at once
and it doesn't matter.

When politicians do make stupid religiouis statements, they're laughed
out of office.

Really? Can you name any? The only Brits of whom I know who were cast
from office got bounced for sexual misbehavior, bribe-taking, or a
lapse in patriotism, or some combination of the three.

I'm not so sure about that.
The religious in Belgium still raise a stink whenever one of their
previligious is removed from them. Examples of these are the
removal of crosses in the courts, the detachment of the Te Deum
from the day of dynasties, the removal of the cross from the
big entrance hall in the national airport.
There was also some kind of campaining, for having the preamble
of the proposal for a European consitution, mention christianity,
as a principle of which Europe was build, or some such thing.
As I recall, the classrooms of the Bavarian stateschools had
to carry crosses on the wall. This has been chalanged in the
courts, but if I recall correctly, nothing was changed.
I agree that we don't have very little creatiosts and fundies
in Europe, but the religious do try to hang on to their previligious
and sometimes like to get the notions spread that they are somehow
special.
