Oh, that's just too funny. I mean it's cool,
very cool... but it's also funny, because:
Here at Steward Mirror Lab we've been
making mirrors for successively larger
and larger telescopes. And the superlatives
for the formal names are starting to run out
(Large Bionocular Telescope, Giant Magellen
Telescope...) At some point some grad
students put together a poster touting
the Super Huge Interference Telescope,
or some similarly scatological acronym --
and on the poster you saw dozens and
dozens of those little telescopes
you used to be able to buy from
Edmond (?) -- the little spherical
jobbies with the tube sticking out
fo the top -- a huge array of them,
all lined up out in the parking lot.
Just like the PaST.

Awesome--too bad none of the schools I went to did cool stuff like that.
Though I'm led to understand that their various sports teams were very
important in a cosmic scheme 9_9
This one year, I was one of maybe a dozen people who showed up for
"telescope night", where an astronomy professor brought out several scopes
for people to look at the moon, planets, and stars.
