Indeed, a very interesting story told there. It was somewhat unreal to see
the images of a ghost town of that size, that time has been standing still
since 1986!

Yes. Stuff like this makes my random bouncing around the net
worthwhile. I remember the pictures of Chernobyl. It was horrifying
then, but still somewhat of a sterile intellectual exercise. These
pictures give hints at the sheer scope of the disaster, and the human
toll.
I wonder though. The ceiling mounted radiation detector....when was it
mounted? (hopefully before the accident) If not, what was the rad count
when it was installed and what happened to the person who installed it?
The article indicates town guard(s). Are these permanent guards? What
protects them from inhailing radioactive dust and do they have
dosimeters to keep them in the 'safer' areas?

Yes, the other pictures I've seen of that place used to be of the reactor
and nothing more. These pictures show us how human lives were affected by
the worst industrial accident in history (as far as I know anyway).

I wonder though. The ceiling mounted radiation detector....when was
it mounted? (hopefully before the accident) If not, what was the rad

That's a good question. Are there possibly websites about this? I will look
into it when I have more time.

I suspect that they have dosimeters like Elena had as well, and maybe they
don't live in the most radioactive parts.

Yes. What a hefty waste. :\

More than likely.

Yes, but my understanding is such is cumulative. Her narrative hints on
this, too. Of the 3,000 (thereabouts) who stayed/returned only 400 are
still alive.
