"V: The Final Battle" (1984) (mini) TV Series
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0086823
The Battle begun in the Miniseries 'V' continues. The war is told from
the view point of the resistance group based in Los Angeles, CA as
they struggle to find weaknesses of the aliens they can exploit. In
addition, not all the aliens feel their invasion was right, and also
work to stop the war.
V (1983) (TV)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0085106
Aliens pretending to be friendly come to Earth and are received
openly. The aliens have masqueraded themselves to look just like
humans. When it is discovered that the aliens' planet is dying and
that they have come to rape the Earth of its natural resources, the
war for Earth begins. An important key to the humans' success is
distinguishing the their own from the aliens.
This is what's really weird about this kind of Sci-Fi. These guys have
the technology & energy to travel to other star systems but not the
intelligence to pick up their water from the cometary halo, asteroid
belts et al. Of course on the meat side, maybe we just taste better.
"V: The Second Generation" (2004) (mini) TV Series (announced)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0366112
Twenty years after their arrival on Earth, the Visitors have deeply
entrenched themselves on the planet, enslaving the human race turning
them into followers. The Resistance is losing the war with their alien
masters until they gain a powerful and mysterious new ally.
Of course if "The Aliens" did invade, we'd probably loose in somewhere
between 4 and 6 seconds. And even if they didn't invade as such, we
all know what happens when a technologically superior culture meets a
technologically inferior culture from our own histories.
With one interesting exception: Japan.
I wonder if we could pull a Japan on them, minus, I trust, an
unsuccessful Pearl Harbour.

Not necessarily. Read Turtledove.

For some real classics along this line, read Clifford Simak.

On Wed, 13 Aug 2003 12:42:29 +0100, a wanderer, known to us only as
Therion Ware <autodelete@city-of-dis.com> warmed at our fire and told
this tale:
This is what's really weird about this kind of Sci-Fi. These guys have
the technology & energy to travel to other star systems but not the
intelligence to pick up their water from the cometary halo, asteroid
belts et al. Of course on the meat side, maybe we just taste better.
Larry Niven, who was contracted as an advisor for the original
miniseries, came with this idea.
The Visitors are the descendants of the dinosaurs, who escaped the
extinction event in a series of slow boats. Now, after 65 million
years, they've finally rediscovered the original homeworld.. and it's
covered with mammals! Who taste pretty good....
I liked V, but was really disappointed at the end where sooper-dooper
magic took over. In the novelization, the kid had memorized the
ship's controls.
