Wow. From prayers to memos.
Can anyone detect a request in that "prayer"?
I can only see commands.
As well as Jason just assuming he can speak for his Jesus.
Smug arrogance and pride. (Shudder)

That's IT? *That's* the weak-***** prayer to save my soul? That's
barely a sound bite!
Well, I was about ready to convert; but after this insult I'm staying

Mr Berry,
May I ask a question?
When you were a child, did you go to church? If so which flavor and
until how old?
Why the question? I suspect that many atheists went to church when
they were young and that they may have been turned off by what they
saw and heard. If that is true, then I was wondering which
denominations produced the most atheists.
Thanks

I went to a Lutheran church as a child, but ended up not believing

Oh well. That's not what happened to me, or what I experienced. It
was basically "quit asking questions and just believe what we tell
you," when it came to my attendance at church and what I was supposed
to believe. I chose to follow science and evolution and change, as
opposed to following some ancient dogmas or creeds which were meant to
support some church or priesthood which I personally think should be
done away with once and for all...

Good question Bob. For me I grew up going to Church of England
services. I liked this church from a community perspective and I could
connect with the Christian morals. However, I don't think I really
connected with the spiritual. This, however, was not what turned me
off religion.
I had a friend who was born again and he took me to one of the services
at his nondenominational church in an old movie theatre
(http://www.findachurch.co.uk/churches/su/su85/kc21/). The service was
packed, well over a thousand, many more than I was used to. The energy
was high but then they all went into a trance, started speaking
tongues, and I swear it was like they were hypnotised. The tongues
sounded like gobbledygook to my ears and since then i have never been
to a church.

Uncle Davey,

David didn't say anything negative about the Church of England. I
have never attended one of their services nor read much about the
CofE, but know that it produced a lot of great Biblical Scholars.
Have you ever been to one of their churches? Was it inlfuenced by the
spiritual movement in the late eighteen hundreds? What is it like
today?

They should be promoting the causes enshrined in the trust deeds of the
organisation(s) that are paying their salary.
If they are doing their best to do that, but have their private doubts, then
that is one thing, if they are knowingly subverting the organisation(s) and
are following their own agenda while being in the pay of the
organisation(s), then that is quite another.
In the case of the first, you may be right. In the case of the second,

I agree.

If they are doing their best to do that, but have their private doubts, then
that is one thing, if they are knowingly subverting the organisation(s) and
are following their own agenda while being in the pay of the
organisation(s), then that is quite another.

Agree again.

In the case of the first, you may be right. In the case of the second,
rather not.

That's how I see it, anyway.

They actually do what they are supposed to do.
On the one hand it's sort of baffling to me but on the other I can
understand in a sense.
They feel they are doing good.
I once gave my brother-in-law a Bible and told him he should read it.
I suggested certain books that I felt might help him.
He was on a downhill slide and nothing else worked.
Funny thing is he knows I'm an atheist and I suppose it was sort of
confusing to him.
But he is a Christian now, doesn't beat anybody over the head with it
and his life is far better than it was.

I've known two Baptist ministers, and currently know a Jehovah's
Witness who are agnostic and one Methodist minister who was an
atheist.
Their explanations for why they continue in their religions make
sense
though I strongly disagree with one of them and somewhat disagree
with
the others.

If someone is doing a ministry without believing it, than that person
is

a

hypocrite, and only damages the cause they pretend to promote.

Really?
What exactly do you think they believe their ministries to be?
And just which cause do you think they are promoting?
Sometimes the decent lie is the only thing some people have left.
I can live with that and it doesn't bother me a bit.

They should be promoting the causes enshrined in the trust deeds of the
organisation(s) that are paying their salary.

I agree.

If they are doing their best to do that, but have their private doubts,
then
that is one thing, if they are knowingly subverting the organisation(s)
and
are following their own agenda while being in the pay of the
organisation(s), then that is quite another.

Why bother? It's not like an atheist takes the bible seriously.

Well, my lips move silently during a crisis, but a lip-reader
would see "Oh *****, oh *****, ohshitohshitohshit!" And sometimes
not all that silently. My husband prefers "Oh *****! Oh *****
***** fuckity *****!" but that probably doesn't count because it's
not at all silently.

LOL! Exactly. The fact that Glenn thinks atheists were praying is
hilarious. Not to mention, that he's lying because I highly doubt he was
ever around a large group of atheists in the middle of a "crisis".

NEVER be sarcastic without provocation.
I note that he has not prayed for me, though. I begin to feel provoked!

No doubt. I barely avoided a car crash this morning with a stupid broad in
a huge white Mercedes. I can assure you that I was NOT muttering "Thank
you, Jeebus" as I slammed on my horn and swerved around the front of her
car.
Neither was my hand gesture informing her she was "Number 1" ;)
