apparent endorsement of witchcraft and sorcery, "Scooby-Doo" threatens
to do the same by steadfastly denying the existence of any
transcendent dimension.

Daphne, Velma, Freddy, Shaggy and Scooby were indeed once skeptical of
paranormal claims. Millions of kids enjoyed their weekly jaunts in the
Mystery Machine while they debunked crooks who relied on gullible people who
believed in the "paranormal". But around 1975 or so, Hanna-Barbera decided
that skepticism doesn't sell, so they added the obnoxious Scrappy Doo and
eliminated the skeptical elements. This carried over into the first Scooby
Doo movie.
I'll be taking my son to Scooby Doo 2 next weekend. Have the characters
returned to their original skeptic selves? We'll see.
I hear Scooby ate the groups stash. Couldn't get it back, either,
except as . . .
