Supporters say package addresses domestic violence
Abortion clinics would be required to screen women to determine if they h=

been coerced or intimidated into ending their pregnancies under legislati=

that passed the state House on Wednesday.
Supporters of the legislation say it is an attempt to crack down on domes=
tic
violence. But opponents say the bills are an effort to discourage women f=
rom
seeking abortions.
The bills, which were opposed by some Democrats, now go the Senate.
The legislation would make it illegal to coerce or intimidate a woman into
seeking an abortion and give them some recourse through civil suits.
Rep. Judy Emmons, a Republican from Sheridan and one of the legislation's
sponsors, said the bills are needed to combat a neglected form of domestic
abuse.
"It is not about abortion," she said. "It is about domestic violence ... =

aspects of domestic violence and how it affects women."
