The Book of Revelation is not pleasant reading. It describes Armageddon, the
Day of Judgment in which, after a series of catastrophes, God chooses those
who will be taken up into glory and those to be left behind to burn in
eternal fire.
The litmus test is whether or not a person has confessed their sins and
accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

"It is as simple as that," says John Gilmore, general manager of Knology of
Knoxville.

He and I met for a heart-attack-on-a-plate breakfast at Cracker Barrel, and
as the waitress kept us plied with coffee long after we finished eating,
Gilmore explained his theory that the End of Time is near. There is nothing
we can do to stop it, and the only hope for anyone is that he or she confess
his or her sins and acknowledge that salvation only comes through the blood
of Jesus.

There's a lot of eschatology going around these days, and if what some
modern-day prophets are telling us is true, things don't look good. Signs of
the end are all around: the threat of a world flu epidemic; the changing
climate; the series of disastrous hurricanes; earthquakes and tidal waves;
and war and carnage on every front.

Basically, Jesus told his disciples that when the gospel is spread
throughout the world for a second time, that generation will be the
last. I have heard that in 1986, that was the beginning of the second
time for worldwide gospel knowledge, and that with a generation lasting
approximately 30 years, the end-time figures to be around 2016, give or
take several years.
You may not know the day or the hour, but you can think and generalize
the years. Kind of like not knowing the address or the street of
someone's residence, but you can guess the neighborhood.
Politically speaking, Israel is to come under attack and will be
overtaken by her enemy, in this case let's say Iran, especially if no
one stops their nuclear ambitions. Iran figures to be ready for a
nuclear war by 2012. I think they're putting in a lot of overtime, so
I'd make that 2009.
Iran will be known as the 'King of the South,' and when they flex their
nuclear muscles, attacking Israel and winning, Germany, Russia, and
China will be genuinely threatened. They will be known as the 'King of
the North,' and since they want nothing to do with the Muslim world,
they will attack and be victorius over Iran and its allies, and this
will basically be the end of the Muslim religion. This is the likely
scenario for World War 3.
The U.S., Britain, and other allies may be rendered impotent. We won't
be strong enough to overtake the 'King of the North', but we'll be too
big of a headache to be messed with if it's not necessary. We would
have to let the 'King of the North' be the new world power, and that
would be Satan's reign for three-and-one-half years, as the 'King of
the North' proceeds to enjoy the spoils of a victorious war. Decadence
will be rampant, far more than what's going on right now with the
liberal's agenda.
The stage will then be set for the greatest show on Earth.

Surely then the question is why bother hitting the "play button"?
Seems to me your god is one which simply enjoys playing with its toys for

You're going a wee bit too far there.
It didn't start with Christianity, and it didn't start with
Doomsday. Heck, even the Christian bible doesn't
promise Doomsday. It promises "Heaven on Earth" with
the return of Jesus, and [blah-blah] years of paradise.
First century Judea was all abuzz with the idea of some
sort of final battle, between the forces of light & darkness,
with the Romans cast in the role of darkness. This wasn't
Christian babble, this was Jewish babble. And, yeah,
just as modern Christian whack jobs will eventually succeed,
the first century Jews got the "final battle" they wanted so
badly. And it did go badly. They came in second.
Jerusalem was destroyed. The great temple was destroyed.
Here we are, some 2,000 years later, and a new temple
has yet to be rebuilt.
~Everything old is new again~
So Christianity sprung from a Jewish cult, and included
within the Jewish culture the Christians brought with them
was this insane idea of a "final battle" and achieving
Heaven on Earth.

I doubt it. I think that the scripture that says "no man shall know the
hour" was at least in part meant to be interpreted such as everyone should
be extremely wary of anyone who claims to know the hour, day, week, month,
year, decade, or century when the end of time (i.e. the biblical judgement
day et al) is to occur.
As it was pointed out, there have been countless people, religions, cults,
whatever, that have prophecied the end of the world and so far, 100% of them
have been wrong. Another aspect of the biblical prophecy that one day we
will all be judged is that everyone is *always* supposed to be ready for the
return of God; knowing the exact time of his return would be way too
convenient.

It is not entirely implausible that we humans might bring on something like
"The End"; Mr Ahmadinejad is clearly anxious to have a go at it, with a bit
of help if he can get it!
What is totally incredible that a putative Divine Being, witnessing our
folly, would actually step in to help one side or another! I would think
He/She /It would welcome a break of a millennium or two from all those
tedious petitioners.
Napoleon once remarked that to interfere when one's enemy was making a
mistake would be bad manners. A real Divinity would be far more Olympian
even than le Grand Empereur.
Any Deity which did so intervene on one side would surely by definition be
unworthy of human worship?

Signs of
the end are all around: the threat of a world flu epidemic; the changing
climate; the series of disastrous hurricanes; earthquakes and tidal waves;
and war and carnage on every front.

So, when can we meet so that you can officially sign all your property
over to me, commencing 2010?
Shouldn't be a problem for you if you are that sure.
I'll look forward to having our lawyers meet on the matter.
