This film, made in Australia in 2001, has just been released in
the UK. Billy Connolly stars as retired lawyer turned fisherman
Steve Myers a testy and sometimes drunken eccentric. Billy
Connolly plays the part brilliantly. His boat is destroyed by
lightning and the insurance company refuses to pay out, calling
it an 'Act of God'. Suing the insurance company would be a waste
of time - so Steve sues God, issuing writs against His
representatives on Earth, the major Christian and Jewish
denominations. The media have a field day and soon many other
people who have been screwed by insurance companies join him.

Very funny. :)

At one point the defendants are worried that the only way they
could win would be to prove that God does not exist!

Won't say more, as many of will not have seen it yet.

Maybe the movie can explain how God would be served with a copy of the
complaint. Whom would you hire as the process server? also it's not up to
the palintiff to prove that God doesn't exist but rather the insurance
company should have to prove the contrary. FI the insurance comany cna't
prove that god exists it could be sued for fraud, since it claimed the act
was committed by an entity it can't show as being real. At best it would be
negligently malfeasant.

Couldn't you forward it to God's official representative(s) and
agent(s)? How do you serve a copy of a complaint to a corporation?
People who claim to be God's ambassadors should *volunteer* to take
responsibility for their God's acts, and should pay for them out of
the Lord's money (as they refer to the offerings they take in).
Anything less is an abdication of their rights and responsibilities as
God's official representatives.

Heaven.

Well, now that you mention it, Christians of course pride themselves
on their allegiance to God, and in many senses regard themselves as
living in Enemy occupied territory, only waiting for the day when they
can return to their true country. While living in enemy territory they
try and recruit further agents for their king.
Clearly they should all be tried for espionage and treason, and
subsequently deported to what they regard as their home country.

At least the priests no longer have diplomatic immunity, as they
did in medieval times!

Certainly took their time doing a UK release. Any idea what the delay
was?

Funny how art imitates life.

Recently a group of Egyptians living in Switzerland have filed suit
against all the Jews of the world for the supposed thievery that went
on prior to the exodus.

The idea is that these guys want the gold and everything the Jews
stole plus interest returned to the "rightful owners", namely the
Egyptians.

I'm just trying to figure out how such a thing will be filed, served
and if necessary carried out?

Isn't there a statute of limitations on that kind of thing?

I want to see the Jewish countersuit for wages owed for labor
performed during the slavery.
