It may have been. Then again it may not have.
No body can "say" because no one is sure exactly what went on 2000 years
ago.
The fact is Gibson wanted to shock people so it's most likely richer in
violence than it was originally.
Or less. Fact is, since Gibson doesn't know the truth-value of
ANYTHING that's in the bible, he could have made a random movie,
called it "the passion of the christ" and still be as close to the
truth.
