northen ten tribes of Israel, who were conquered and interbreeded by
the gentiles nations, and therefore related to the Jews. AS THE people
of China are called Chinese and those of England are referred to as
English, so the inhabitants of Samaria are known as Samaritans.
The history of the Samaritan people might be said to begin after 997
B.C., when the northern ten tribes of Israel under the leadership of
Jeroboam revolted against the rule of the house of David. Some fifty
years afterward, King Omri, of the ten-tribe kingdom, bought the
mountain of Samaria from Shemer and on it built the city of Samaria,
which became the capital of Israel. After that the people of Israel,
especially those from Samaria, came to be called Samaritans, and the
whole northern territory, Samaria.-1 Ki. 16:23, 24; Hos. 8:5; 2 Ki.
17:29.The term "Samaritans" first appeared in Scripture after the
conquest of the ten-tribe kingdom of Samaria in 740 B.C.E.; it was
applied to those who lived in the northern kingdom before that conquest

Right after you learn what is written in the Gospels. Furthermore
there is quite a bit of sectarian tension between various groups of
Jews, but if a man has a Jewish mother (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox
or even atheist) that man is considered to be a Jew by all the
religious sects. That did not apply to the Samaritans, as Jesus
himself in Matthew points out; and it certainly did not apply to the
centurion or to his servant or to the Canaanite woman.
