So I have no problems with the US 666 number, except that it was an
even number used on a north-south US highway in violation of the
numbering convention.
I was under the impression that the even/odd EW/NS rule only applied to 2
digit US highways, as well as applying to only 2 digit Interstates.
Not always. The big US highway right outside my doorstep is a two-digit even
numbered north-south highway...US 62, aka Niagara Falls Boulevard. The other
big US highways in the region (US 20 and US 219) follow the pattern.
Interstate highways do not always follow their pattern either. In this area
Interstates 190, 390 and 990 are all north-south routes. 290 and 490 are
east-west routes.
