In 1995, retired Vietnamese General Nguyen Giap meeting with former
Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, categorically denied that
Vietnamese gunboats had attacked American destroyers 1964 August 4. A
taped conversation was released in 2001 of a meeting several weeks
after passage of the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, revealing that Robert
McNamara expressed doubts to President Johnson that the attack had even
occurred.
Re: Viet Nam: I think you're being a bit silly to base the
provocation of a military police action on a gunboat incident. The
action against Viet Nam was justified on the basis of preventing
communism from spreading beyond North Viet Nam. It's always a good
thing to fight against communism. Remember, if it weren't for
Christianity, the U.S. would be inundated with communism.
Re: Iraq: Weapons of mass destruction or not, aren't you glad that
Iraq didn't have them? Don't you wish Hussein would've cooperated with
the U.S. and the U.N. inspectors? Instead, he chose to play the
'stubborn' game and look at him now. Does he still look proud? Does
he still look like a fierce warrior? As for terrorism, not only should
we be in Iraq, but Iran and Syria should be next, unless they cooperate
*fully* with the U.S. and the U.N. Sound familiar?

It was a farce! Michelim tyre company owned half Vietnam, where they grew
their rubber.
Rubber was a high priced commodity, just like oil, today. French failed to
subdue Vietnamese
so Australians first and Americans second started "training" quislings at
Point Cook, and in Virginia,
same thing what they are doing now training the quislings for Iraq. Little
known fact is that
quislings have a very short life expectancy.
Vietnam war had little to do with communism, and lots to do with rubber, and
raw commodities.
I know, I was there! and saw the French Foreign Legionaires, stealing gold
from bank vaults,
and thrashing what they do not take.

"vivapadrepio@aol.com" <vivapadrepio@aol.com> suddenly spluttered:
Remember, if it weren't for
Christianity, the U.S. would be inundated with communism.
That is so true! i mean there really was a serious possibility that
the labor unions were plotting a takeover of the state machine from
october 1917 onwards, and that enough of the American people would be
duped into doing their evil bidding that they could easily have taken
over.
I mean, you guys all read 'Your Country's Story' as kids right, so you
already know that the reds were under everybody's bed ready to eat
your children unless they spied on you for the Russians.
The only thing standing between America and Communism was the devout
belief that SkyDaddy was there to protect you from the evil atheist
creed of social justice and equalityoh,
*****!^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h.
Of course, that's why America had to assume authority over a French
colony and demonise what turned out to be three quarters of its
citizens, making sure they hated you enough that they would go through
any ordeal to get however many of you fuckers arrived out of their
sovereign territory one way or the other, until, inevitably, the
political, human, and economic cost of being there got so much that
you had to concede total defeat.

It was probably the rise of labor unions that stopped us from going the
Marxist route.
The government and business both tried to break the unions with clubs, guns
and fire all the while yelling that it was the commies behind the unions.

Communists can be quite prosperous. It's the lack (stifling) of
religious education that promotes communism.
And yes, we know that Jesus *still thinks* that those who are
prosperous should share their wealth with those who are not. And to
always worship the one true God. How are you doing in these areas?

Well, lessee... Western Europe, markedly secular, almost the
mirror-reverse of American society in that regard, fundamentalism
in particular almost unknown: mostly democracies and parliamentary
democracies.
Eastern Europe, primarily Catholic, Orthodox, Russian Orthodox:
almost entirely communist for 50-80 years.

Let's not forget that FDR was from a very wealthy family with a very
traditional sense of power. Huey Long was probably his most serious
threat because he had mastered populism in a way that Bryan didn't even
manage, and because the Big Business Republicans had been completely
destroyed. The battle in the '30s in America would have been Populism vs
Pragmatism, with American Populism drawing from the European versions:
Communism and Fascism.
