"I find it strange ... that a pro-life politician like George Bush

every minute of his life to kill as many Iraqi children as he can

in the

of oil or whatever it is that's really on the agenda."

--- Bill Blaikie

This de facto president is finally seeing his poll numbers fall.

Even

chauvinist paranoia has a half-life, it seems. His legitimacy is

being

eroded
as even the mainstream press has discovered now that the pretext

for the

war
was a lie. It may have been control over the oil, after all.

Anti-war

forces
are regrouping as an anti-occupation movement. Now, exercising his

one

true
talent--blundering--George W. Bush has begun the improbable process

of

alienating the very troops upon whom he depends to carry out the

neo-con

ambition of restructuring the world by arms.

Somewhere in Balad, or Fallujah, or Baghdad, there is a soldier

telling a

new
replacement, "We are losing this war."

The "Bush & God" Scam: Don't Buy It

by Ira Chernus

"Bush & God," the cover of Newsweek announces, as if the two were

business

partners. That's what the White House wants us to think. It is

mounting a

massive campaign to paint the president as a man on a divine

mission, a

man who
sees himself as an agent of God.

Some of the reasons for this PR ploy are obvious. It's so much

easier to

go to
war if we believe that God is on our, and our leader's, side. Wrap

the

flag
around God, and who can question your moral credibility? If Bush

stands

with
God, those who actively oppose his war must be down below with

Satan. If

Bush
is so sincerely religious, those who question his motives must be
misguided.
Such a spiritual man would never send others to their death for

crass

motives
like power and oil. Surely, he must have higher ethical principles

in

view.

This is a time for one last enormous push against the war. Who

knows? God

may
be on Bush's side. But it doesn't matter. The political momentum is

on our

side. Let's go out confidently to stop this war before it starts.

You and what army?

Romans 13
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.

Wilt thou

then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou

shalt have

praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do

that

which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for

he is

the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth

Are You Living in the Real World?
"One of the fantasies that religious people seem to have is that
Christians do not have the same kind of problems that everyone else
has. The notion is that if I am a good Christian and do all the things
that I am supposed to do, everything will go well for me and I will not
have the problems that everyone else has. For some people religion is
an escape mechanism or at least a Band-Aid to avoid problems. When
death, divorce, sickness, poverty and the like come to people with this
mind- set, they quickly struggle with their faith and perhaps abandon
it. They also become desperate and are unable to deal with the life
they find themselves imbedded in. When Paul described his life as a
Christian he said that he had learned to be content in whatever state
he found himself, and he specifically mentioned that he had learned to
be content when he was in poverty as well as when he had plenty
(Philippians 4:12). There is no place in the Bible where Jesus
guarantees insulation from all the things that afflict mankind. We are
told that "God causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust" and not
understanding that can bring expectations that when they are not
realized can be very destructive.
"Another fantasy that is foisted on religious people is that prayer
and faith will solve all their problems. It is popular for preachers to
tell people that if you pray enough and if you have enough faith,
everything is going to turn out the way you want it to. This is a lie,
and no where in scripture is there a promise that prayer and belief
provide diplomatic immunity from problems. Jesus prayed that the death
He was facing would not happen and that God would accomplish His ends
in another way, but Jesus died on the cross anyway. Paul prayed that
his "thorn in the flesh" would be removed, but it was not. It is a
monstrous lie to tell people that if they have enough faith and enough
prayer everything will be solved, because there is much more involved
in God's purposes for our existence than our own particular problems
and needs>"

"The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our
enemies; probably because generally they are the same people."
---- Gilbert K. Chesterton
That bible is an engine of terror used by religious medicine men to
frighten the unenlightened members of the human community. Notice that
these pathetic followers of fantasy always quote passages that suit
their du jour project.
In my thousands of hours in church I never heard The Medicine Man,
conjurer, preacher/priest read from the sections that are atrocities
ordered by G-d Himself. We cannot know absolute truth from the Bible,
hence we must search the vast gamut of Christian experience to find "a
kind of truth."
