I'm not a religious guy, but there is evidence that a rare alignment of
four planets coincided with a lunar eclipse right around the birth of
Jesus timeframe. This was in the spring of 6 BC. The astrophysicists know
the exact date and time. There were coins minted in the region to
commemorate the event, which would have seemed spectacular for that time
and place The reason we use December 25th was a papal decree intended to
head off support for an event the church deemed pagan.
And, such a well-remembered event would be prime for
usage by those who created the Jesus myth.
