i thought 'atheists' just dont beleive in god
if so, why do you need a badge?
why not just 'not beleive'
Because we live in a culture that is permeated with, and dominated by,
theists. There is no word for those who fail to stab themselves in the
eye with a fork - that's not a common activity. But there are words
for those who do not have children, who cannot read, who do not engage
in sex, who will not fight in self-defense or any other reason, who
are not athletes, etc.
When an activity, characteristic, belief, or skill is important to a
significant number of people, then those "others" get a label. We use
the label because god-belief is so often brought up in our society.
"Are you saved?"
"Go away."
fair reply
"Jesus loves you."
"Jesus is dead. There are no gods. Please go away."
that's offensive (why mock the afflicted? it will only end in a discussion
you dont want) - i'd say "thanks very much - Now go away"
I would categorize it as information regarding a human being that is said to
have lived about 2000 years ago. The chance that he would still be alive is
rather slim, to say the least. If the assumption that no one can live for
that long is offensive then someone needs to wake up. Unless of course
you're talking about some other guy named Jesus, perhaps from South America.
He could very well be alive, however it would still raise the question of
why he loves everyone.
