Your logic is faulty.
By your logic, heterosexual couples who do not want or who cannot have
children should not get married.
Also, a gay couple going to an adoption agency CAN get a baby.

Wait, so let me get this straight: you're saying that there's a
"compelling state interest" in every act of heterosexual intercourse?
I'd say "Lawrence vs. Texas" says otherwise.
Anyway, if this were really true, why is sex ed in this country so
abysmal? Our teen pregnancy rate is one of the worse in the
industrialized world.
No one would argue the link between marriage and babies, but to say
that marriage rights come down to that alone is laughable.
Nevertheless, if US law allowed for adult adoption and sibling
adoption as Roman law did, we probably wouldn't be having this debate.

Having been happily married for 21 years, perhaps we should be
grateful to the proponents of the Defense of Marriage Act, but we're
not exactly sure against what we're being defended. We always thought
that couples protected their own marriages with love, communication
and honesty. Our mothers never told us that
the secret of a happy marriage was to be sure that same-sex partners
weren't allowed to have them.
Love and commitment are special and rare enough in our modern society.
We should be offering gay couples our best wishes, not self-righteous
moral judgments.
