what a bunch of *****.
saying the pledge isn't like praying that one would do in private -
quite the opposite - it is making a public statement about one's
allegiance.
Why would I want to demonstrate my allegiance to anyone outside my
direct actions, and why should I be required to or be judged by
repeatedly quoting a meaningless oath? You can say the pledge and
not mean it, so how is that demonstrating allegiance.
You can also be legally sworn and not mean it, that's called perjury.
So maybe the Bu$h/A$hcroft Gestapo can hook you up to
a penile plethysmograph to see if you really mean that
pathetic patriotic puke you call the Pledge ... and then
chop it off if you aren't sufficiently aroused.

"Naturally, the common people don't want war;
neither in Russia nor in England nor in America,
nor for that matter in Germany.
That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders
of the country who determine the policy and
it is always a simple matter to drag the people
along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist
dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can
always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.
That is easy. All you have to do is tell them
they are being attacked and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing
the country to danger. It works the same way
in any country."
