I just wondered -- does anyone know if this site is real, or a parody?
I can't seem to find any disclaimer on the site that says it's a joke.
After my mistake in thinking that Landover Baptist was real, I spent
some time recently reading through the site content but I didn't find
anything that was *obviously* a joke, like on Landover Baptist, if you
get further into the site.
On the other hand... I just can't quite believe that *anyone* could be
so incredibly... what can I call it? Words fail me. Well, ok, I *know*
that there are people like that, I've met them. But... come on, it *is*
a parody, right?
It is real, sad to say. Phelps has made it a point of "religious duty and
honor" to picket gay funerals with his hateful signs and hateful attitudes.
He has come to Seattle several times, including once to picket the Episcopal
Cathedral, St. Mark's, because they elected as dean an openly gay man (who,
until Rev Robinson is consecrated, remains the highest ranking openly gay
man in the US Episcopal hierarchy.) I shudder to think of what Phelps has
planned for New Hampshire.
They were in Iowa a couple of times recently to protest
productions of "The Laramie Project".
I took this picture of them a couple years ago in Dubuque.

They were there to protest a seminary graduation. I went
hoping to find a counter protest, the people at the church
did a good job of ignoreing them. You have to admire the
space the police set aside for them.
