I know a woman who is nuts for astrology. She has had a hard life
and it has put her in contact with all sorts of people. She would
say she doesn't have any of the typical governmentally-proscribed
prejudices. So it is fascinating that she immediately wants to give
people an astrological classification. I see it as a security
blanket that highlights her deep-seated fear and insecurity. It
gives her a world-view where she perceives that she has some
control.
hmm, seems like a radical view-point.
She's had a radical life. In the absence of education or church,
astrology gives her a world view. And why should she not see it as a
useful tool when she can find an element of kindness
While She/He/IT is sticking it's fat ugly hand into her wallet, bank
account, etc. to enforce an unrealistic view of his/her so-called
fate/kismet (call it what you will) that has nothing to do with the real
world? Give me a break...LOL..
Yeah, yeah. But don't you see the appeal for the uneducated? I have a
belief that most higher animals have the capability for superstious
behavior. The first thing you do is ask what sign a person is. Then you
will be selectively looking for actions that reinforce your beliefs about
that person. Like magic, THERE THEY ARE! (Not surprising since humans
generally display human traits.) But it is reinforcing confirmation for
them about the "truth" of astrology.
Quite subtly pernicious really, like the variable interval reinforcement
of gambling.
what's your sign?
Sagittarius - make something out of that...LOL...
Hare in a Toad Hole
I'm affronted that the original poster didn't follow up on this. It's a
perfectly good oriental astrology designation. I had a Pythonesque
sceptical punchline. I was impressed that the "life chart" for Hare in a
Toad Hole was in very good agreement with how I saw my life. (With
appropriate wizardly vagueness: "A non-parent elderly person will be
significant to your early adulthood". Yeah, right.) So my punchline has
been:
"If you don't believe in astrology, keep checking out other astrologies
around the world until you find one you do!" (as in, "You are the
Messiah!")
