reagan as a god |
Repugs have already made him their patron state. They might as well get
the apotheosis process over with. To speed things up I'll nominate
him as the god of stupidity, as this most consistent with his rightarded
policies. Reagan should win the election for god of stupidity by a
landslide. He won't even have to cheat, the way that most repugs now
have to in order to attain office.

We used to console ourselves in the '80s that it couldn't get any worse than
Reagan. That was too optimistic. Bush is far worse than Reagan ever was,
because he's actually *acting* on his insane beliefs. Reagan mouthed the
appropriate rightwing extremist platitudes, but didn't act on all of them.

The only true conviction Ronald Reagan had was that communism was
evil. Everything else was negotiable. Heck, he honored Martin Luther
King with a national holiday while denouncing welfare queens.

The only true conviction Ronald Reagan had was that communism was
evil.
No...he SAID that Communism was evil but when in power he actually did things
which more resembled Stalinist Communism than libertarian conservatism. He
clamped down on individual rights, he expanded the power of the federal
government more than any president in history (until Bush II) and he ran
massive debts to expand the military; the exact same things that the Soviet
Union was doing in the 1970s and 1980s.
Don't judge him by his words...judge him by his deeds. Reagan merely
out-Communisted the Communists. He was no conservative and Goldwater reminded
him of it on numerous occasions after Reagan had become president.
"I've spent quite a number of years carrying the flag of the 'Old
Conservatism.' And I can say with conviction that the religious issues of
these groups [the Religious Right] have little or nothing to do with
conservative or liberal politics. The uncompromising position of these groups
is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our
representative system, if they gain sufficient strength." - Senator Barry
Goldwater, 15 September 1981, Senate Speech

Nice legacy, Ronnie.
That legacy also includes creating the first Federal task force to study
the AIDS problem, and doubling spending on research into the disease
every year from 1981 through 1989.
"Douglas Kmiec, President Reagans constitutional legal advisor, also
pointed out on National Review Online (October twenty-third) that, When
an initial legal inquiry suggested that those with AIDS might not be
eligible for civil-rights protection because employers
could assert a
legitimate fear of contagion,
it was President Reagan who appointed
a commission on AIDS that ultimately asked for that legal thinking to be
re-examined. In the end, Reagan concurred with my legal opinion that,
as a matter of law, individuals with AIDS were entitled to existing
civil-rights protections and could be excluded from those protections
only where they would be shown, on an individual basis, to pose a threat
to the health and safety of others or to be unable to perform their
required jobs.
Continued Kmiec, As anticipated, this result was not uniformly
embraced. Despite that, President Reagan and his staff saw it as so
important that they convened a major press conference at the Justice
Department to highlight the opinion. The conference took place in
October 1988 not an ideal time to be announcing controversial news, as
President Reagan was then campaigning for the election of his then-vice
president, George H.W. Bush. Again, did Ronald Reagan do everything
humanly possible to examine, research and defeat AIDS? No; but given
the benefit of nearly 23 years of hindsight, has anyone? Had he spent
$20 billion on research in 1985, would it have made a difference, given
the fact Mankind has never in its history cured a virus (not even the
common cold)? Asks and answers Morrow: Was enough money devoted to
AIDS? Probably not. Enough money is seldom allocated to any disease
.
Well only know how much is enough after a cure is produced. "

Also, if Reagan ever endorsed abstinence or celebacy until marriage he
was a hypocrite as he was responsible for the conception of at least
one child out of wedlock.
Ah, yes, and anybody who ever smoked a cigarette is a hypocrite if they
later oppose smoking.

I thought he was dead back when he was President.
Regan was the first republican *figure head*, he really did not
do much of anything except let the republicans in his cabinet
make the decisions for him. This became quite obvious his
last three years as his mind obviously was slowing down.
George Schultz however was one of the cabinet, and he was
a good man. Bush senior was also very smart, he just
was too gave to much to the rich. Shrub is a lot like Reagan,
just a figure head, but he has almost no one in his cabinet that
is any good. When Powell leaves that will be it, one hundred

Quibbler, you make a great liberal. Denegration, dehumanization,
denial and defeatism in only four sentences.
And all because a great man and a great president has died.
Reagan was a mean spirited, mass murderer son-of-a-*****.
What a lot of hogwash.
Are you ignorant, or retarded?
Read up on the rightwing death squads in Central America Reagan
created.
Read up on the Iran/Contra scandal which prolonged the Iraq/Iran war
by years and directly contributed to more than 1 million dead.
If you didn't travel in his well-to-do social circles, he didn't give
a ***** about you.
You've got him confused with a Kerry or a Kennedy.
It's obvious you don't know jack ***** about Reagan.
He hated the poor, just like he hated blacks.

I'll nominate him as the god of stupidity, as this most
consistent with his rightarded policies. Reagan should win the
election for god of stupidity by a landslide. He won't even
have to cheat, the way that most repugs now have to in order to
attain office.

Reagan didn't create them. That particular blame belongs to the
governments that the US had supported *against* their Soviet-supported
Stalinist insurgents.

Yeah, read up on just how many arms were involved in that deal. They'd
last less than a day under any reasonable combat conditions. And don't
give me Saddam's war gas either. Saddam made that himself. The US wasn't
even the largest supplier of precursor chemicals. Russia supplied most
of Saddam's arms, as well as Iran's. France was second.

The problem is, the people that decide what "needs
doing" aren't the ones who pay the cost.

There's a pretty fair record of "political outsiders" who get elected,
especially if you don't just look at Presidential elections.

When you weed out all those who aren't millionaires,
the list looks a little thin. Even on the state level.

Yeah, well, it *does* take money and connections. If you don't have
either, you're not going to get much attention.
